Evening at the Ballet”
The Dunedin Community Center
- New Venue for Tampa
Bay Ballet
During the short span of two
years, the new Dunedin
Community Center,
boasting a marvelous stage and professional lighting and sound systems, has
been the site of numerous chorus performances, band concerts and theater
presentations.
For the very first time, on Saturday, March 21st at
7:30 PM, this state-of-the-art center will host a performance by Tampa Bay
Ballet. “An Evening at the Ballet” will include classical and
original choreography of Arrival,
Women’s Work, Gypsy Interlude and La Bayadere Variations as well as other
works.
Lindsay
Latham, Director of Tampa Bay Ballet began her dance studies at Fletcher School
of Dance in her home town of Asheville, N.C. at the age of three. By the age of
ten, she was accepted into the Boston Ballet Children's Summer Workshop. Upon
her return, Lindsay began to study with the Greenville Ballet in S.C. and
became the company's youngest member. Lindsay continued to dance with the
company for three years and during the summers she attended the School of American Ballet's summer program at
Julliard in N.Y.C. Lindsay has instructed students in ballet, pointe, lyrical,
jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary and liturgical dance. Many of her students
have been accepted into professional ballet companies and some are performing
in Cats, at Busch
Gardens, Carowinds and
many other off Broadway shows.

On Saturday evening, February 7, 2009, the
Upper Tampa Bay Chamber (UTBC) Education Foundation and the Nielson
Company will host the 14th Annual International Fine Wine & Food
Festival at Nielson’s Grand Hall, located at 501 Brooker Creek Blvd., Oldsmar, Florida.
The black-tie-optional event begins at 7:00 p.m. and includes samplings of fine wine and cuisine from popular restaurants and wine retailers, a spirited live auction, a silent auction and entertainment by local students. Guests are invited to bid on a wide range of auction items, including a Wine Country get-away, a flat panel T.V., spa services, rounds of golf, and other exciting packages. Proceeds benefit the Upper Tampa Bay Chamber Education Foundation to help fund programs and scholarships for students in the Upper Tampa Bay area. Tampa Bay Chamber (UTBC) Education Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c)
(3) Public Charity, established by the Upper Tampa Bay Chamber in
2006, to serve students in the Upper Tampa Bay area. The UTBC
Education Foundation awards scholarships to Upper Tampa Bay area
students, sponsors a Student of the Month and Teacher Appreciation
program in twelve, local elementary schools, and is in the process of
establishing a Leadership program for middle school students. To fund
local scholarships and scholastic programs, the Education Foundation
holds a number of events throughout the community and offers
individual memberships and corporate sponsorships.

American Stage Theatre Company Extends the Run of
Pulitzer Prize Winner August Wilson’s KING HEDLEY
II
Extended Thru:
Feb. 22
Due to audience demand, American Stage Theatre Company has extended by one
week the run of its next chapter in preeminent
African-American playwright August Wilson’s “Century Cycle”, KING HEDLEY II, thru February 22.
A “Pay-What-You-Can” night has been
scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18.
In this hit
production, King Hedley II is recently out of jail and trying to sell stolen
refrigerators in the poor side of Pittsburg to raise enough money to purchase a
video store. As he and his new family begin to rise above their limited
opportunities to attain their Ronald Reagan-era “American Dream”, a ghost from
the past re-enters Hedley’s life that forces him to confront his own pattern of
petty violence and self-destruction.
Performances and ticket prices are as
follows:
Wednesday and Thursday evening curtain is at
7:30 p.m.
Friday and Saturday evening curtain is at 8
p.m.
Saturday and Sunday matinee curtain is at 3 p.m.
Tickets prices are $24-$39 depending on date and time of
performance.
Students Rush tickets are $10, 30 minutes prior to
curtain.
A “Pay-What-You-Can” night has been
scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on February 18.
