Art At The Plaza, a gallery in Belleair
Bluffs, is hosting an exclusive showing of new works by
internationally known designer and artist Michael Vollbracht,
longtime Safety Harbor resident.
Vollbracht will be present at a gallery
reception 6-9 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 11, along with gallery owners Tina
Basel-Smith, Sharon Drenner and Tracy Stanich, to unveil a group of
works on canvas and paper, including some original fashion
sketches.
Vollbracht is known as a renaissance man:
a fashion designer, a painter, an illustrator and an author. His
illustrations are internationally known and his artwork is included
in many private collections, among them former President Gerald
Ford, Diane von Furstenberg, Elizabeth Taylor and Paloma
Picasso.
In 1985 Vollbracht wrote, illustrated and
published "Nothing Sacred," now a collector's item and in its
second printing. It is a visual diary of 25 years in New York City
and the glamorous personalities he interacted with from the world
of fashion, stage and screen.
Most recently Vollbracht was the creative
director and couture designer of Bill Blass, Ltd. for five years.
Bill Blass had been a mentor of Vollbracht since his days as a
student at the Parson's School of Design, and in 1999, the
legendary Blass tapped Vollbracht to catalogue his work, which
resulted in "Bill Blass: An American Designer."
During Vollbracht's tenure at Bill Blass,
he dressed such diverse women as Janet Jackson, Angelina Jolie,
Oprah and First Lady Laura Bush.
Vollbracht's paintings often reflect his
fashionable side, his sense of drama and his love of Florida's
flora and fauna.
Art At The Plaza owners said they are
excited to welcome the return of this multitalented artist, back
with a presentation of new works for only the second time in the
gallery's 14-year history.
Art At The Plaza is located at 100 Indian
Rocks Rd. N., Belleair Bluffs. The show will be open through Tues.,
Oct. 30. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon.-Fri.; 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
