A one-stop "shopping" kiosk for traffic
offenders is now available in Largo thanks to a collaboration
between Ken Burke, Clerk of the Circuit Court, and Diane Nelson,
Tax Collector.
As part of a pilot program initiated by
the clerk's office, one of the clerk's payment kiosks has been
placed at the Mid County Tax Collector's Office, located at 13025
Starkey Road, Largo. Now, tax collector customers may pay fines
using their debit or credit card or by using their checking account
numbers to pay by electronic check, according to Burke and
Nelson.
"Customers often come into (the Tax
Collector's) office to reinstate their driver's license without
realizing they have outstanding tickets that must be paid to the
clerk's office before they can do so," said Nelson. "When that
happens, they have to leave our office, go to the clerk's to pay
their fines and get their D6 (driver's license reinstatement)
clearance, then come back to our office to get their license
reinstated."
The clerk's office had the kiosk
reprogrammed for use in the tax collector's office. Customers can
both pay fines and print out any necessary paperwork, such as a
driver's license clearance, according to Burke.
"We have many options to enable customers
more convenient ways to pay their fines. But, these methods of
payment do not help customers if they are already at the tax
collector's office when they realize they need to make payments to
the clerk's office," said Burke. "The automated phone line and
online payment options are great if they are used prior to coming
into the tax collector's office to get a driver's license
reinstated."
Although the telephone, mail, drop box and
internet options are available around the clock, seven-days-a-week,
Burke cautions that you cannot print out a D6 clearance using these
options. Customers will still need to come into or contact the
clerk's office to obtain official copies.
The clerk's kiosk in the tax collector's
Starkey Road office may also be used to make payments of fines for
misdemeanor and felony cases, municipal and county ordinances, and
boating and traffic citations.
The payment is processed by Link2Gov
Corporation, the same company that processes the Clerk's online
and telephone-automated citation payments.
Link2Gov's standard 3.5% service fee
applies at the kiosks. The payments are processed within 24 hours
using any of the alternatives, according to Burke.
