Reader Protests City Plan To End Glass Recycling E-mail
Monday, 01 October 2007

To the Editor:

I sent this email to Safety Harbor's Mayor And City Council et al:

re: "Safety Harbor Recylers Say: Hello Paper, Goodbye Glass"

(Front page article, September 2007 issue, Tropical Breeze)

The abovementioned article states that as of October 15, 2007, the City of Safety Harbor will no longer pick up glass as part of the city's recycling program. I guess (please note I used the word guess), the city has the right to reconfigure the recycling program because I do not have the time to research the city's ability to do a make-over.

OK. I estimate that approximately 40% of my recycle "stuff" is glass. I think the residents of Safety Harbor should get a 40% reduction on their recycling charge.

As a taxpayer, I have no problem with paying for a service which I receive, but, I do require that I get what I pay for. I know that the city will argue that the change was mandated by conditions out of their control, etc. etc. BLAH, BLAH, BLAH... I know what I can do... the city's garbage cans are large enough to hold all my garbage as well as that which I used to separate for recycling. PROBLEM SOLVED and one less thing I have to do.
