Samuel John Pacurari, 58, Safety Harbor,
died of lung cancer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces and
a former letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He is survived
by his wife, Theresa (Barber); his five children, Jason Pacurari,
Hope Hills, NC, his wife, Johnna (Flores), Eric Pacurari, Hope
Hills, NC, Ryan Pacurari Beres Raeford, NC, his wife, Heather
(Sweat), Samantha Pacurari, Safety Harbor, and James Pacurari,
Safety Harbor; three sisters; and one brother.
Harold M. "Douby" Bateman, 79, Safety
Harbor, died October 4, 2007. He moved to Safety Harbor from Newark
Valley, NY where he served as mayor for 12 years. An accountant, he
served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years. He is survived by
his wife, Patricia; daughters Polly and Pam; son-in-law Jim; and
grandchildren Travis and Shelby.
Cesar G. Salvat, M.D., 86, died October 8,
2007 at his daughter's home in Safety Harbor. Born February 15,
1921, he retired as Pinellas County Physician in 1990. He is
survived by his daughters, Mariette Gammon and Linda Craig; and,
four grandchilden, John Gammon, and Alyssa, Michael, and Matthew
Craig.
Genevieve "Jeanne" Pisano, 73, Clearwater,
died October 14, 2007 at Woodside Hospice House. Born December 3,
1933, she came to Clearwater from the Bronx, NY, and served as a
deputy court clerk for Pinellas County before being elected
Secretary-Treasurer of the Local 729 Clearwater Musicians Assoc.
She was one of organizers of Clearwater Jazz Holiday and served as
co-chairman of the Music Committee the first two years. During her
tenure she served as manager for the Music Performance Trust Fund
for Upper Pinellas, Pasco, Citrus and Hernando counties and as
Secretary of the Florida-Georgia Conference for the American
Federation of Musicians. She was founder and charter member of the
Al Downing "Jazz Society," a member of the Suncoast Dixieland Jazz
Society and former sponsor of the Suncoast Dixieland Jazz Classic.
She also managed the Dixieland "Jazz Notes" and "Polka Dots" bands.
For many years she was primarily employed as a paralegal. Survivors
include cousins, Daniel Pisano, M.D., of Yardley, PA, and Angelo
Rocco of Leland, NC, and adoptive family Frank and Beverly Pisano,
Safety Harbor.
Clara Cushnie, 86, Safety Harbor, died
October 15, 2007. A native of Camaguey, Cuba, she was born December
20, 1920 and moved to Pinellas County in 1955 from Kingston,
Jamaica. She opened C&C Restaurant on Elm Street in Safety
Harbor a few years later and operated the restaurant for nearly 40
years, serving Caribbean cuisine. She is survived by three sons,
Noygel, Errol and Winston; a daughter, Elean; two daughters-in-law,
Dorothy and Sharon; a sister, Josephine; a brother, Kenneth; eight
grandchildren; and, three great-grandchildren.
Joseph Arthur Ward, Jr. 86, Safety Harbor,
died October 15, 2007. He worked as a security guard at Windsor
Park, Tampa for the past 15 years. He had a passion for gardening
and deep affection for all animals. He is survived by his long time
companion Lorraine and her family; three daughters, Susan, Anne and
Mary; a brother, Robert; four grandsons; and two
step-daughters.
John "Jake" D. O'Bryant, Jr., 59, Safety
Harbor, died October 19, 2007, as a result of an accident while on
a family vacation in Boone, NC. He was born March 2, 1948 in
Atlanta, GA, and was employed by Herndon Construction for more than
18 years. He was predeceased by his father, John D. O'Bryant Sr.,
his mother, Lila Mae O'Bryant, and sister, Lydia Collins.
Survivors include his wife and son, Gale Silbermann and Jacob;
brothers, Kenneth, Tim and Terry; and sisters, Carol Shiyou and
Kathleen Dollarhyde; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Rachel Bulleit, 96, Safety Harbor, died
October 22, 2007, at her home. She is survived by a daughter, Gayle
B. Moses, of Safety Harbor.
Harriette D. Wilcox, 93, died October 24,
2007 at Consulate Health Care of Safety Harbor. She is survived by
a son, John, Boca Raton; two daughters, ElizaBeth Dillon, New Port
Richey, and Eleanor Nelson, Branford, CT; six grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren.
Dorcus Ann Smith, 69, Safety Harbor, died
October 27, 2007 at Hospice House Woodside. She was born May 27,
1938 in Dillon, SC. She moved to Florida in 1957 from Boston, MA.
She was a homemaker and Baptist. She was a member of VFW Post 10093
and American Legion Post 238. Survivors include a daughter, Terri
L. Smith, Safety Harbor; five sons, Walter L. Smith and Joseph D.
Smith, Safety Harbor, Alan R. Smith, Tampa, David W. Smith of
Chassahowitzka, Jay D. Smith, Safety Harbor; brothers Joe and David
Martin, SC, and Carson Smith, SC; sisters, Doris Tucker, SD, and
Licie West of Holiday; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grand-children;
14 nephews; and 14 nieces.
Harry Joseph Walter, 90, of Palm Harbor,
formerly of Safety Harbor, died October 28, 2007. He moved to
Safety Harbor in 1985 with his wife of 65 years, Marjorie. He was a
member of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church and American Legion Post
7, Clearwater. He enjoyed dancing with his wife and bowling with
his grandsons as well as cruises, baseball and playing golf. A
veteran of WWII, he served in the European Theater with the 8th
Airforce. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; daughter, Margaret
Krivchenia, and her husband, Tom, of Palm Harbor; grandsons, Tom
Henwood, of Tampa, and David Henwood, and his wife, Darlene, of
Clearwater, and great-granddaughter, Katelyn.
Marilyn "Micki" Nault, 76, died October
31, 2007. She pioneered the Aqua Slim Water Workout in 1983 in
Pinellas County and became a successful business owner and mentor.
Born in Quincy, IL, to Clara and Theodore Middendorf, she was a
sister to Paul, Alvera, Dee, Betty and Ted. She graduated from the
University of Missouri, and worked as a stewardess for American
Airlines. With husband Richard Nault, she was mother to Kathy,
Mike, Peggy and Tom. After her children were raised, she worked as
a Criminal Administrator in Clearwater. Following a major back
surgery in 1982, she began Aqua Slim, where her enthusiasm
rejuvenated the health and lives of her students. She met her life
partner Steve Sanderson shortly after. The couple traveled the
globe hand-in-hand and danced around the world to the sounds of
Sinatra. She asked to be remembered by her motto: "Live Well, Laugh
Often and Love Much."
