Lincoln Heights Bistro, located on Elm
Street, just north of downtown Safety Harbor, celebrated the fourth
anniversary of its opening on October 5, owner Dawn Algieri
said.
Algieri also announced new hours beginning
in November, with the bistro now offering Sunday brunch and dinner
from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner
Thurs.-Sat., 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and 5-9 p.m.
The bistro also hosts wine tasting events
on the first and third Thursday each month.
Chef Algieri has established a reputation
for offering some of the finest Southern-style cooking in the Tampa
Bay area and has received accolades from a wide variety of food
critics. Located on quiet, tree-shaded Elm Street, the restaurant
is on a street that historically was the heart of Safety Harbor's
African-American community when segregation ruled.
Today the neighborhood remains proud of
its heritage, but is surrounded by the affluent subdivisions that
predominate in Safety Harbor. Lincoln Heights Bistro is the only
remaining commercial enterprise on the street, which is home to a
Pinellas County school and several churches.
Lincoln Heights Bistro's menu and wine
dinners feature specialties such as cornmeal crusted catfish,
braised short ribs of beef and shrimp Creole along with touches
such as handmade potato chips -- made from sweet potatoes. A recent
appetizer was calabaza soup with West Indian spiced crema. Side
dishes include such exotic offerings as an apple, carmelized onion
and bleu cheese tart; grape and rosemary grits; or, a roasted pear
and shallot salad. A typical dessert might be a hazelnut and
chocolate ganache parfait or just a chocolate brownie.
Lincoln Heights Bistro is located at 603
Elm St., Safety Harbor. Reservations are recommended. Call
