Traveling North is a 4-piece band based in Safety Harbor, with deep roots in
Pinellas County. The band has performed
numerous times at local clubs, including
the Dunedin Brewery, Whistle Stop Grill and Skipper’s Smokehouse, as well as at
events in Safety Harbor, Clearwater and
most other towns in the area.
The band started at bass player Stefan
Scheuermann’s 15th birthday party. He
teamed up with Clearwater Central Catholic (CCC) High School classmate
Bryan Foutch to entertain the party (and
stun the Dads in the back of the Rigsby
Center) with songs by Hendrix, Muddy
Waters and Eric Clapton. The duo enjoyed performing together and decided
to start a band. They added drummer
Jake Andress, also from CCC, and called
themselves Triple Threat.
After just a few months they were spotted at an open mic night at the
Dunedin Brewery and hired for the
Dunedin Wines the Blues Festival. They
entertained thousands for more than four
hours and were hooked on performing from that point on.
The band eventually added guitarist Collin Ryan, a long time friend of
Stefan’s. Their drummer (Jake) eventually left, and at a recording studio met
drummer Bryan Baker. Having already
toured with the band Dayspring, Bryan
brought an added level of professionalism.
No longer a three-piece, they changed their name to Traveling North… a name
they came up with from all of their traveling
between Clearwater and gigs up
north to Tallahassee and beyond.
Their original music does not fit in any of the sub-categories prevalent in music
today. It’s best described as rock, pure
and simple. Their first commercial CD
release is titled, “For That World,” and contains a great mix of songs — comments
on war (“For That World,” “This
Is Your King”), love (“Lullaby,” “Cliché To Say”), even of a friend lost (“On The
Table” — after a friend committed suicide).
stage with national artists including Col.
The band has played throughout the Southeast — through Louisiana and up
through Georgia. They have shared the Bruce Hampton and The North Mississippi
All Stars.
They made their first television appearance
in November on WTSP’s Stage
10 morning show. They followed up
later in the week with another recordsetting
stay at the Dunedin Brewery.
Capacity is 110, and they drew close to
200. They are the featured performer the
evening of Saturday, Feb. 9 at the upcoming Florida State Fair.
They recently signed with Hellbender Management out of Nashville, and expect
to announce a number of a additional shows in the near future.
