Safety Harbor Student Honored At Gulf Coast Museum Of Art Opening
Matthew Giles of Safety Harbor Elementary
School was one of three students
to receive an award of excellence for outstanding work on Sunday, Nov.
18 as the Gulf Coast Museum of Art
(GCMA) held an opening reception and awards ceremony for “A Creative StART:
Pinellas County K-5” (schools whose
names begin with N-Z) in the Student
Exhibitions Gallery.
The Student Exhibition Gallery at the Gulf Coast Museum of Art features two
elementary, one middle and one high
school exhibition annually as part of its
educational program. Artwork by children from Pinellas County’s public and
private elementary schools is selected by
an independent juror and each student receives a certificate of achievement for
participation in the show.
Three students received an award of excellence for outstanding work, along
with a U.S. Savings Bond, and their
teachers received a gift from the museum
to recognize their efforts as art educators.
Award winners were Giles of Safety
Harbor Elementary, art teacher Joleen
Ross; Esmeralda McCabe of Ponce de Leon Elementary, art teacher Wendy
Bruce; and Ryan Murch of Perkins Elementary
and art teacher, Michelle
Crosby.
The annual exhibition provides a creative opportunity for young artists, recognizes
talented students and promotes community awareness and support for
art education. Educational programs for
youth are sponsored by Target and the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay.
The Gulf Coast Museum of Art is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tues.-Sat.; noon-4 p.m.
Sun.
