Preserving Safety Harbor’s Small Town Charm

I would like to introduce myself, as I am running for Safety Harbor City Commission Seat 4. I was drawn to run for office because of my love for this city. It is my goal to preserve Safety Harbor’s small town charm and appeal. My husband Rock and I have lived here since 1991. During the early 1990s, I worked for the City of St. Petersburg in the department of Housing and Economic Development. Later, I went to work for Neighborhood Lending Partners, a non-profit specializing in community development lending. In 1999, I worked for the City of Clearwater where I ran the City’s housing programs, overseeing $4 million in grant funds targeted toward non-profit organizations and affordable housing. At the end of those long work days, I was grateful to come home to quaint and peaceful Safety Harbor.

In 2001 I started Turnstone Properties, Inc. a consulting firm, here in Safety Harbor. As a small business owner, I have found Safety Harbor to be a great place to work and love its central location. As a mother, my daughter and I have enjoyed the library and the beautiful parks, not to mention the variety of children’s programs offered by the city. If elected, my focus will be in the following areas:

•    Preserving Our Community
•    Approve development in keeping with the community vision of Safety Harbor
•    Support businesses that enhance downtown; and
•    Promote Safety Harbor as a quaint destination for visitors
•    Assure Public Safety
•    Support Community Policing
•    Encourage strong neighborhoods and watch groups
•    Protecting the Environment
•    Preserve Green Space
•    Promote increased recycling
•    Encourage “Green” Construction
•    Stewardship of Taxpayer’s Dollars
•    Evaluate Current Budget
•    Seek public/private partnerships to enhance the city’s budget

I hope voters will consider my experience, ability to see projects through from start to finish and passion for Safety Harbor in making their selection for the next City Commissioner in Seat 4. I have greatly appreciated the support and positive feedback I have received and pledge to serve our community by working to preserve the beauty and charm that makes Safety Harbor special.
