Safety Harbor Obituaries
Randy Antonacci, 44, Safety Harbor, died June 26, 2006. He was born in Jeannette, PA, and came here in 1985 from Delmont, PA. He was a member of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church and he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, water sports and spending time with family. Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Jodi; a son, Alex, Safety Harbor; his mother, Sylvia Antonacci, and a brother, Jerry, both of Jeannette; a sister, Linda Detzel, Erie, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
Bryant Ronald Scott, 57, Safety Harbor, died June 28, 2006 at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park. He was born in Buffalo, NY, and came here in 1992 from Akron, OH. He was an engineer and retired after 20 years with American Brass in Tonawanda, NY. He was a member of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, Safety Harbor. Survivors include a son, Scott Ronald, New Port Richey; his mother, Mildred Bryant, Clearwater; two brothers, James, Glynco, GA, and Terry, Australia; and two sisters, Sharon Bryant, San Diego, and Faith Tadman, Bellevue, WA.
Carmela Theodore, 97, Safety Harbor, died July 2, 2006 at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor. She was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and came here in 1990 from Brooklyn, NY. She was a homemaker and a member of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, Safety Harbor. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and dancing. Survivors include two daughters, Solange Valles, Safety Harbor, and Nicole Brutus, Queens, NY; four sons, Pierre and Jean Robert, both of Miami, Joseph, Weston, and Fritz, Brooklyn; 23 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Loyd Virgil Jones, 67, of Oldsmar, died July 11, 2006 at James A. Haley VA Medical Center, Tampa. He came to Pinellas County in 1958 from his native Glencoe , AL, and moved to Oldsmar in 1987. He was a sculptor and Coast Guard veteran. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Diane; a son, Lee, New Port Richey; his mother and stepfather, Ann and Nick Hionedes, Dunedin; and two granddaughters, Jennifer and Ellysa Jones, both of New Port Richey.
Thomas Demas, 73, Safety Harbor, died July 12, 2006 at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor. He came here in 1986 from his native Springfield, MA. He was retired from a dry cleaning business and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Katherine; two sons, George, Crystal Beach, and Steven, Tierra Verde; a daughter, Julie Bragg, Nantucket, MA; a brother, Mark Pagios, West Springfield, MA; and two grandchildren.
John Arnold, 88, Safety Harbor, died July 14, 2006 at Tandem Health Care, Safety Harbor. There are no known survivors.
Donald J. Rigsby, 70, a native of Safety Harbor, died July 14, 2006 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Cornelia, GA following an extended illness. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Homer Jefferson Rigsby. His father was a Safety Harbor City Commissioner 1929-39. He was a U.S. Air Force disabled veteran and a refrigeration engineer with the Atlanta Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Tampa and a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, Cornelia. Survivors include his wife, Ercel L. Rigsby of Cornelia.
Herbert Paul “Herb” Walter, 75, Safety Harbor, died July 18, 2006 at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor. He was born in New Philadelphia, OH, and came here in 1974 from Louisville, OH. He worked as a millwright for 25 years at the Canton Drop Forge, Canton, OH. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, served in the medical corps and received a Bronze and a Silver Star. He was Protestant and a member of VFW Post 10093, Safety Harbor, and an Eagles Aerie in Ohio. He enjoyed music and dancing, fishing and bowling and was a Dolphins fan. Survivors include his wife, America; two sons, Ed, Safety Harbor, and Russ, Orlando; a daughter, Cindi Durbin, Safety Harbor; a brother, Sam, Sebring; a sister, Jean Shott, Ohio; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Richard LeRoy “Dick” Booth, 83,Safety Harbor, died July 19, 2006 at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. He was born in Largo in the McMullen homestead, a member of the Booth-McMullen pioneer families. His father was R.L. “Roy” Booth, Pinellas County Sheriff from 1924-1928. His great-grandfather was Pinellas pioneer Richard J. Booth, who married Count Odet Philippe’s youngest daughter, Merlineya, “Melanie.” He graduated in 1941 from Clearwater High School and was a rancher. Portions of his ranch near the intersection of McMullen Booth and Enterprise roads were developed for the Northwood Commons shopping center and residential subdivisions. He was an Army Air Forces flight instructor in World War II. He was a member of Sylvan Abbey United Methodist Church of Clearwater. Survivors include a son, Robert L., Clearwater; two grandchildren, Kelly Leigh Booth, Indian Rocks Beach, and Richard Everett Booth, Oldsmar; four nephews, Randy and Kim Preedom, both of Dade City, Phil Manhard, Sarasota, and Richard Manhard, Virginia; and a niece, Virginia Manhard Lubin, France.
Virginia “Ginger” Redlinger, 45, Safety Harbor, died July 23, 2006 at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. She was born in Miami and moved here in 1997 from Fort Lauderdale. She served four years in the Army where she received operating room technician training and was based at West Point. She worked at Mease Hospital Countryside Surgery Center. She enjoyed camping, going to the beach, movies and music. Survivors include a daughter, Julia, Belleair; her mother, Jean Sandefier, Clearwater; three sisters, Brenda, Oldsmar, Valerie, St. Petersburg, and Linda, Miami; and a brother, Joseph, Miami.
John Robertson, 95, Safety Harbor, died July 23, 2006 at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. He was born in Alabama and came here from Orlando where he retired after 30 years at the Orlando Naval Training Center. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Eola Masonic Lodge 207 and the Dubsdread Country Club, both in Orlando. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Helen; a son, John E., Clearwater; a daughter, Ann Fleckenstein, Alpharetta, GA; and two grandsons, Zach Fleckenstein, Clearwater, and Kyle Fleckenstein, Atlanta.
William Richard Corbett, 78, Safety Harbor, died July 24, 2006 at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park. He came here in 1980 for his native Zanesville, OH. He retired in 1969 as an Army sergeant first class after 23 years. He was a Korean and Vietnam wars veteran and a Navy veteran of World War II. He received a Bronze Star. He worked locally for 10 years as a custodian for the Pinellas County School System. He was a member of American Legion Post 238 and VFW Post 10093, both of Safety Harbor, and VFW Post 10167, Holiday. He enjoyed gardening and was a sports fan, especially Devil Ray’s baseball. Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Rose; three sons, Richard, Dallas, and Steve and Scott, both of Apache, OK; a daughter, Madelyn Corbett, Apache; three stepdaughters, Karen Gardner, Safety Harbor, Linda Urban, Dallas, and Michele Urban, Clearwater; a stepson, Jeffrey Urban, Clearwater; two sisters, Beth Dawson, Somerset, OH, and Jean McDonald, Dunedin; and six grandchildren.
Margaret B. Kiser, 88, Safety Harbor, died July 25, 2006 at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. She was born in Indianapolis and lived 20 years in Alexandria, VA, before coming here in 1986 from Marion, NC. She worked as an administrative assistant for Defense Logistics Agency in Virginia. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist. Survivors include a son, Jeff, Safety Harbor; a daughter, Sharon A. Kiser, Ashburn, VA; and a grandson, William D. Jurney, Arlington, VA.
Joseph, “Joe” Gazda, 91, Safety Harbor, died July 27, 2006 at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater. He was born in Genou, MT, and came here in 1984 from Garland, TX. He worked 30 years as an automotive engineer for General Motors, Detroit. He was an avid fisherman and Devil Rays baseball fan. Survivors include a son, Ronald, Richardson, TX; a daughter, Sandy Kritch, Clearwater; a sister, Mary Kaszyca, Southgate, MI; two grandchildren, Karey and Kale; and a great-grandchild, Danyel.
Andrew Rodger Morrison, 86, Safety Harbor, died July 29, 2006. He came to this country in 1928 from Scotland and retired here in 1975 from New York. Survivors include a son, David Rodger; two granddaughters, Lisa Lynn Lovell and Jennifer Ann Russo; and two great-grandchildren.
