To the Editor:
Time passes and the question is have the voters of Safety Harbor forgotten the two St. Petersburg Times news articles concerning Nadine Nickeson’s role in the changing of the will of an old and aging woman named Maria Mecca, and the $84,634?
In 2006, Nadine Nickeson lost the election to a newcomer, James McCormick, in an overwhelming majority. The voting people of Safety Harbor clearly did not trust her self-serving attitude in the Maria Mecca case.
In 2007, in defiance of the voter’s wishes, Nickeson filed to run for the seat on the commission she now holds after seeing that no one else was interested. Unopposed, she took the seat on the commission.
In 2008, Nickeson is in the running for a commission seat again. Public service is a trust to serve the people and not take from the people. Nadine Nickeson never learned this. On February 19, 2007 at a city commission meeting, I called on her to give to the City of Safety Harbor $84,634. This money was originally intended to be given to the city of Safety Harbor upon the death of Maria Mecca.
However, through Nickeson’s personal role in the changing of the will of Maria Mecca, this money is in Nickeson’s personal bank account, instead of the city’s bank account. Nickeson has never replied to my call.
In Mecca’s original will the money, $84,634, would have gone to support the Safety Harbor library and museum. In 2006, with taxpayer’s dollars the city spent approximately $10,800 for a new roof on the museum. The second will was drawn up when Nadine Nickeson was an elected sitting commissioner, and as such was in a position of trust to serve the people of Safety Harbor. She neglected to serve the people and only served herself.
How could anyone trust this woman again? What makes Nickeson think that the voting public wants her back? She is a disgrace to the trust of the office of commissioner of the city of Safety Harbor.
