After the official ribbon-cutting on Saturday, Jan. 26, hula hoops
spun as Oldsmar celebrated the grand opening of its new library on St.
Petersburg Drive East. Radio Disney provided entertainment in the
parking lot, where adults were more interested in the city’s replica
1901 Curved Dash Runabout, the first vehicle produced by R.E. Olds,
automotive pioneer and founder of the city.
Inside tours were
available along with music by the East Lake High Jazz Ensemble and
hundreds lined up for free food from Pollo Tropical, Publix and other
local businesses. Planning for the $5 million building began five years
ago. It is a “symbol of Oldsmar’s commitment to the future,” Mayor Jim
Ronecker said. “This is one of the most significant days in Oldsmar
history.” See more photos of the library in Community News.
