To the Editor:

Residents of Safety Harbor — How many times do these supposed lovers of our lovely city need to trash the city in the newspaper? I am so tired of hearing trash against Nadine Nickeson and Pam Corbino. Don’t these candidates who are running for office have any attributes to use as campaigning tools? Their only running platform bring revenge?

Yesterday I received an unsigned letter babbling about a property on Short Street. The whole two page missile is like the ravings of a lunatic. I checked with city hall and all of the rules are being followed to the nth degree regarding the bids, etc. I understand the author read this at the commission meeting? I have no interest in a person wishing to build a garage on this property, nor do I care if the writer “investigated” the property. Is the writer afraid that some secret structure is being planned? If you think something untoward is going on — first, have the spine to sign your name; second, run for office and fix government from within.

DO NOT TRASH MY CITY WITH MUDSLINGING ANYMORE! During the last election, a group of candidates attempted to trash Mrs. Nickeson. An investigation took place, and the charges were dropped because there was no wrong doing. Give it up — Now Mr. Taylor is bringing this up again? This is Safety Harbor — not Gotham City. Now we have Kathleen Earle claiming the same kind of persecution that was condoned against Mrs. Nickeson and Mrs. Corbino. How would she like the allegations to come up again after being found innocent? This is so sad. Safety Harbor (get it — safe harbor) is not the stage for this ignorant behavior. Why would you want to be a part of the government of a city you so willingly hold up to public ridicule?

I live three doors away from Mr. Taylor (who sent me the first Christmas card ever after 6 years — with a campaign message in fine print), and he has never approached me with his great ideas for the city. When Ms. Earle was running, another neighbor came to my door on her behalf. I told her the questions I had for Ms. Earle — all were about quotes from her in the paper — and I never received a call or visit to answer my questions. I guess she and Mr. Taylor have the same campaign strategies — why bother with people with intelligent questions.

About ten years ago, there was so much infighting within Safety Harbor city government that it was embarrassing to read the newspapers. Then, let’s remember the last Mayor’s race debacle. Why doesn’t our Mayor request that our candidates act with some sort of decorum, and not embarrass our fair city? I, and about 100 other people I have talked to, who are also embarrassed by these ridiculous antics, would applaud him.

When I vote for President of the U.S., Governor of Florida or Commissioner of Safety Harbor, I vote for the person who threw the least trash, and ran on their own accomplishments and talents.

19-year resident of Safety Harbor
