What could be more enjoyable than taking a stroll on a spring day through “America’s Most Walkable Small City,” enjoying the charming residential neighborhoods, then being invited to enter into some of the homes to enjoy the lovingly restored and decorated interiors?
The Dunedin Historical Society invites you to do just that on Saturday, Mar. 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the historic house tour: “The Tour Through the Ages.” Experience living in Dunedin from the early 1900s through 2008.
The oldest building on the tour is the Fenway Hotel, on Edgewater Drive along the waterfront. One of the finest winter resort hotels on the west coast of Florida for many years, it is being renovated into a luxury hotel and has opened its newly restored lobby for visitors on the tour. Pause on the verandah for a view across the spacious lawn and St. Joseph’s Sound to Caladesi Island and take advantage of a great photo opportunity.
Homes include several styles of bungalows, each distinctive in architecture and décor, including one built in retro 1926 Craftsman style to a design by the renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
At the First Presbyterian Church, built in the Spanish Mediterranean style, refreshments will be served and a tour of the sanctuary offered.
The newest addition to Dunedin housing, the Dunedin Grand is located on Edgewater Drive. The tour will include the model unit and a chance to visit a penthouse apartment with a wonderful view beyond Caladesi over the Gulf.
Advance tickets are $15, and include the keepsake booklet, with pen and ink sketches by Melissa Mller Nece, a historical synopsis of all the sites, a map and other information. They will be available at the Dunedin Museum, Chamber of Commerce, Cindy Lou’s, and the Hale Senior Center. Any tickets still available on the day of the tour will be sold for $20.00 at the Museum on Main Street at Pinellas Trail until 3 p.m. or until they sell out.
