Highwaymen 2nd Generation To Appear Locally E-mail
Friday, 01 February 2008

On Sunday, Feb. 10, to help celebrate Black History month of February, the Safety Harbor Museum of Regional History will present, for the first time in Florida, a special event showcasing the artistic talent of the Highwaymen siblings.

“It is truly amazing the talent of the second generation and to see how they have followed in their father’s brush strokes,” the museum said in announcing the event.

The following “second generation” artists are scheduled to be at the museum from noon to 5 p.m. to meet the public and demonstrate their painting techniques: Althea Butler, Dorene Butler, Angela Butler, Kelvin Hair, Ray McClendon, Tracy Newton and Johnny Stovall.

Their paintings and other works of art will be available for purchase.

Following the one-day event, various Highwaymen and second generation artists will be painting and demonstrating their techniques at the museum:

  • Al Black, Sat., Feb. 16;
  • Willie Reagan, Sat., Feb. 23;
  • Isaac Knight, Sat. and Sun., Mar. 1-2;
  • R.L. Lewis, Sat., Mar. 8;
  • Ray McClendon, Sat. and Sun., Mar. 15-16; and,
  • Roy McClendon, Jr., Sat., Mar. 23.

The museum is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tues.-Fri. and 1-4 p.m. Sat. and Sun. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and teens; children under 7 admitted free.
