“Between the Covers,” a new show opening Sat., Feb. 23 at
The Painted Fish Gallery features calligraphy and handmade books by 15
artists from across the country.
Gallery owner Linda Renc
organized this invitational exhibit of artists who specialize in fine
hand-lettering and unique hand-bound book structures. Guest artists
from out of state include Peter Thornton, Sherri Keisel, Joan Merrell
and Cari Ferraro, all of whom are lettering and book arts instructors.
Eleven Florida artists will also be exhibiting. The two and
three-dimensional calligraphic artworks range from watercolor to cast
paper, fabric, clay, limited edition hand-bound books and even wearable
art.
The public is invited to “Between the Covers” opening reception 6-8 p.m. Sat., Feb. 23 with guest artists, refreshments, raffles and live music by singer/songwriter Mike Jurgensen.
From 8-11 p.m. the gallery is hosting a “Dining on Air” Dessert Party, a fundraiser to benefit community radio station WMNF 88.5. RSVP for the Dining on Air Dessert Party at 727-726-1954.
On Sun., Feb. 24, the public is invited to the gallery for handmade
book and calligraphy demonstrations from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. by guest
artists Judith Leitch and Thery McKinney.
The Painted Fish Gallery is open daily 11
