Steven Carl MacAllister, 56, of Crested
Butte, CO, formerly of Safety Harbor and Tampa, died January 16,
2008 of complications from several abdominal surgeries associated
with non-metastatic colon cancer. After graduating from the U.S.
Naval Academy in 1973, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in
the U.S. Marine Corps. His first assignment in the Marine Corps was
to Quantico, VA where he was an honor graduate of the Infantry
Platoon Commanders course at the Basic School. He was subsequently
assigned to the U.S. Naval Flight School at Pensacola. During
flight school, he was awarded a Master of Science degree from the
University of West FL for his participation in the redesign of the
Naval Flight School Training syllabus. After receiving his Wings of
Gold, he was assigned to Marine Attack Squadron 311, El Toro, CA,
flying the single seat A4M attack fighter and performing the duties
of Intelligence Officer. In 1980, he was hired by Eastern Air Lines
and assigned to Miami where he flew the B727, DC-9, and B757
aircraft. In 1988, he resigned from Eastern Air Lines to continue
his aviation career with USAirways. He retired from USAirways
several years ago to spend more time with his beloved family and
pursue his many eclectic interests including home remodeling,
music, writing, hiking and riding his Harley. He resided in the Bay
area until 2006 when the beauty of the mountains of Crested Butte,
CO called him home. He was preceded in death by his son and
talented musician, David, 17. After his son's death, he created a
state of the art sound studio at Calvary Christian High School,
Clearwater to encourage the advancement of music in the lives of
young musicians. He is survived by his parents, Jack and Marilyn
MacAllister; siblings, James and Sue MacAllister all of Crested
Butte; four daughters, Brande Kristell Halaza and Carly MacAllister
of San Diego, Kelly MacAllister of Clearwater, and Allyssa
MacAllister of Tampa.
Lucille "Lou" Connor, 96, Safety Harbor,
died January 29, 2008, at Palm Garden of Clearwater. She moved to
the bay area in the mid-1980s from Lexington, KY, where she worked
as a Fraternity House Mother at the University of Kentucky. She is
survived by her son-in-law, David Beaulieu, Safety Harbor; niece,
Jacki Hahn, of Dedham, MA; and nephew, Henry Boudreau, of Grants
Pass, OR. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Lou, in
2006.
Sally L. Sheremeta, 66, Safety Harbor,
died February 2, 2008. She was a retired preschool teacher at
Rainbow of Love, Clearwater. She is survived by a daughter,
siblings and ex-husband.
Daniel Paul Kovacs, 98, died February 7,
2008. He was born June 19, 1909. He was a proud member of the
United Auto Workers and a Ford Motor Company retiree. He was a
lifelong member of the Hungarian Social Club and Hungarian
Christian Church in Southgate, MI, and in Safety Harbor. His
vibrant spirit and humor were enjoyed by all who knew him. He is
survived by his wife, Irma; and step children, Cecilia Coleman, of
Yuma, AZ, and Monika and Chuck Collins, of Hudson, OH. He also
leaves behind Margaret Vasas, sister of his beloved first wife,
Julianna Kovacs (1916-1995); 4 brothers-in-law, and many other
family and friends here and in Europe.
Martin "Marty" Altner, 61, died February
13, 2008. A Brooklyn, NY, native, he graduated Suma Cum Laude from
Columbia University with a BA in Political Science. His passion for
political causes never wavered, even through his years working in
New York's garment district, and more recently, managing his
rental properties in Pinellas. He was often seen and heard at city
and county commission meetings, and was involved in many
organizations, including PRIMER, Jewish Federation of Pinellas,
ECSH Little League as both coach and board member, Safety Harbor
planning and zoning board, City of Clearwater Budget Committee and
was former chairman of SAC at Countryside High School. For many
years he taught Sunday school at Temple Ahavat Shalom and
chaperoned young film makers to the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Janis; his children, Cole
and Shannon; sisters Diana Young and Mickey Liebowitz; brothers in
heart, Dr. Michael Newman and Michael Matluck and in-laws, Daniel
and Oilda Cuebas.
Effie D. Hook, 91, Safety Harbor, died
February 13, 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo
Hunt.
Robert Patrick "Bob" Kearns, 69, died
February 14, 2008 at Hospice House Woodside. He was born November
21, 1938 in Queens, NY and was a Navy retiree of 20 years. He twice
volunteered for service in Vietnam. He was a member of the VFW. He
is survived by his wife of 16 years, Margaret (Peggy) Kearns; two
nieces, Donna Bruski, of Astoria, NY and Laura Bruski, West
Springfield, MA; 3 stepchildren; 7 grandchildren; and 18
great-grandchildren.
Jacquelyn G. Darmin, 80, Safety Harbor,
died February 20, 2008. She was born in Brooklyn NY, and grew up in
Bergen County, NJ. She moved to South Jersey in 1957, where she
worked with the Miss America Pageant as a chaperone for many years.
She moved to Tampa in 1969, did volunteer work with The Children's
Home, and in 1975 moved to Pinellas County, where she ran a small
business. She is survived by her husband, John; and son, Mark.
Issac Stanton "Stan" Richardson, 82,
Safety Harbor, died February 24, 2008, at Westchester Gardens
Rehabilitation and Care Center. Born in Salisbury, MD, he was a son
of the late George E. "Wood" Richardson and Mary Hester Richardson.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Flossie Spry Richardson
in 1968, a stepdaughter, Pamela Morris Gsvind in 1990, and his
brother, George E. "Pete" Richardson in 2005. A WWII Marine
veteran, he served in the Pacific with VMB Bombing Squadron 613. He
was a 60 year lifetime member of Salisbury Elks BPOE 817, and a 48
year member of American Legion Synepuxent Post 166. He was a member
of Atlantic Methodist Church, Ocean City, MD, and an affiliate
member of Northwood Presbyterian Church in Clearwater. He was a
member of the U.S. Trotters Association and a former judge for the
Maryland Racing Commission. He was also the owner of Richardson
Manor Apts. in Ocean City, MD. He is survived by his beloved wife
of 27 years, Lola M. "Peach" Richardson; three daughters, Sharon R.
Byers, and her husband, Joseph, of Green Cove Springs, Susan R.
Eschenburg, and her husband, Dr. John "Jack", of Ocean City, MD,
and Sandra L. McCabe, and her husband, Mace, of Bishopville, MD; 7
grandchildren, Amy B. Figgs, Jace Byers, Tiffany E. Henson, Kristy
L. Eschenburg, C. Robert Gsvind Jr., Sarah C. Foxwell, and Sheldon
Chandler IV; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces; and 2 nephews, and
their spouses, Anne and Vincent Palumbo, of Annapolis, MD, and
Kenny Richardson; and many beloved friends.
Louis F. Allen, 70, Safety Harbor, died
February 26, 2008. He is survived by his son, Louis Allen, of
Bedminster, NJ.
