Safety Harbor City Hall hosted an exhibition celebrating Black History month during February. Above, some of the items collected by local residents, including instruments made with traditional materials.

The exhibit culminated with a program of African dance on Thursday, Feb. 28. Dances from Liberia, Ghana and Senegal were performed to the rhythms of traditional drums and gourd rattles by a Tampa-based community dance group first organized in 1980 by Myron and Natalie Jackson.

Performers included the couple’s children, Alonzo and Aaliyah, Loretta Harvey, Imani Fitts, Osunguaide Olafemi and Markquis Miller.

Below (l-r), Natalie, Myron, Miller, Olafemi and Harvey.
