YMCA Helps Those In Need; Needs Your Support To Help Keep Promise E-mail
Saturday, 01 March 2008
More than 100 people met at the North Pinellas YMCA on Tuesday, Feb. 12 to hear stories from community members who have been helped by the YMCA of the Suncoast and the East Lake community. These stories included those from single mothers, adults with intellectual or physical challenges, older adults on fixed incomes and families going through financial difficulties.

The YMCA has made the promise to never turn away anyone due to an inability to pay. Donations from our members and the community help to provide more than $91,000 in services to people in the East Lake area for membership, youth and adult programs such as swim lessons, childcare services at local schools and community based programs like our Teen Leaders Club and Youth in Government.

During this special event, YMCA staff, board members, and members from the Rotary Club of East Lake Sunrise each presented checks totaling $22,000 towards our goal of $77,000 for the “2008 Keeping the Promise Campaign.” Mike DiFelice of the TampaBay Rays spoke about his experience with the YMCA and stayed to sign autographs and take pictures. The level of giving during this magical evening was an example of how a community can make the difference in the lives of others.

Join us at the YMCA, located at 4550 Village Center Dr., Palm Harbor to learn about the great programs that you can be a part of. Spring brings swim lessons, scuba lessons and our adult and youth swim team to our pool. Need to refocus your energies on losing a few pounds or toning up? Meet with one of our personal trainers to help you set and meet goals that lead to a healthier and happier you! Your toddlers and preschool children can participate in sports, art, cooking or science programs.

We also have programs for new or expecting parents, including a playgroup and support group that meets weekly. If spending time together is important to you, try one of our new Get Fit Family programs where everyone can have fun together while staying active! Call us at 727-772-9622 or visit our website at www.ymcasuncoast.org to learn more about how you can get involved. Remember, our promise to never turn away anyone for an inability to pay is kept through your generous gifts.
