The Pinellas Professional School Counselors’ Association has announced that Linda Sullivan, a counselor at Safety Harbor Middle School, is the winner of the annual Pinellas County Schools “Counselor of the Year” Award.
Sullivan has worked in Pinellas County for more than 20 years. She previously was a teacher and counselor in Texas and also worked as a licensed professional counselor in Dallas.
Sullivan, a long time resident of Safety Harbor and Clearwater, is a member of the Pinellas Reading Council and participates in many church and civic activities. She is involved in the Pinellas Education Foundation and recently nominated 22 students for Doorways Scholarships. She also actively supports the Clothes to Kids organization and works with the Safety Harbor Kiwanis Club in the Successful Seahawk program.
In 1989 she also was named to “Top Ten Educators of the Year” for Pinellas County schools. Sullivan’s award was partially based on her “Suddenly Seahawks” initiative. Her process of helping students successfully transition from elementary to middle school includes emails, newsletters, school programs and tours beginning when students are in the fifth grade and continues through the students’ sixth grade year. Sullivan has continuously worked at assisting students in becoming successful Safety Harbor Seahawks.
She has received many accolades from parents and co-workers for her assistance during this time in relieving students’ and parents’ anxiety about entering middle school. The PPSCA will present Sullivan to the School Board and then have her represent Pinellas County at the Florida School Counselor Association annual convention in the fall in Orlando.
