Two North Pinellas County men recently were honored by UPS for having attained 25 years or more of accident-free driving for the delivery service.
Paul Smith and Gary Reynolds were inducted into UPS’s Circle of Honor program, two of 785 drivers recognized nationally this year. UPS said a total of 4,451 of its active drivers currently are in the elite group, giving the company an outstanding reputation for safety in the transportation industry. UPS drivers log over two billion miles a year on U.S. roads and average less than one accident per million miles driven.
Smith works out of the UPS facility located at 2020 Calumet St, Clearwater, and presently provides service in the East Lake residential area. Smith lives in Clearwater.
Reynolds works out of the UPS facility located at 5720 126th Ave. N., Clearwater, and presently provides service in the Clearwater Beach area. Reynolds, his wife Barbie and son Andrew, live in Tierra Verde.
Of the Circle of Honor members, 137 have been accident-free for 35 or more years, with six of those having driven more than 40 years without an accident.
All UPS drivers are taught safe driving methods beginning on the first day of classroom training. Drivers learn the rules of the road from UPS managers who are required to complete an intensive three-week course at one of the toughest driving schools in America, the UPS Driver Training School in South Holland, IL.
