Arthur Air Conditioning of Oldsmar received the Business of the Year Award for 2008 from the Upper Tampa Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce.
“We employ no subcontractors,” owner Randy Arthur said, emphasizing that the ethic of service to customers has grown the business over the past 20 years. “We choose to employ full-time, licensed installers and technicians because we believe it is in the best interest of the employee as well as the customer.”
Arthur added his company finds and keeps qualified employees by offering various levels of health insurance, from basic, catastrophic coverage to more comprehensive low-deductible coverage that can include all family members. The company also pays half of tuition for any employee who seeks higher levels of certification in heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology and installation.
Affordable Air Conditioning started in St. Petersburg in 1988, and as the company expanded it moved to Clearwater and in 2003 to its current location at 801 Stevens Ave., Oldsmar.
“We dropped the name, ‘Affordable’ in 2004 because we don’t always want to be thought of as the lowest-cost vendor of HVAC,” Arthur said.
Since 2005 Arthur Air has enjoyed double-digit revenue growth by narrowing its marketing focus to a well-defined area of northern Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.
