Syd Entel Galleries presents “Form, Color and Expression thru Fiber,” June 26-July 26 in conjunction with Convergence 2008. Award-winning fiber artists Deborah Corsini, Deborah Jarchow, Brecia Kralovic-Logan and Gerri Johnson-McMillin will appear at a “Meet the Artist” public reception 6-8 p.m. Thurs., June 26. All four artists create unique three-dimensional art through color, form and fiber.
Deborah Corsini has been weaving for more than 30 years and is currently a studio artist exhibiting her work nationally. Her bold, graphic line, zigzag stripes and scalloped selvedges are striking characteristics of the wedge weave. Instead of weaving perpendicular to the warp, as is usual for tapestry, wedge weave is an eccentric weaving technique where the wefts are woven at an angle.
Full-time weaver Deborah Jarchow, known mostly for rayon chenille wearable art, also creates large-scale wall pieces. In 2005, she helped develop the Fiber Arts Studio in Camarillo, California, where she teaches and weaves.
Brecia Kralovic-Logan is in a love affair with fiber. Her color palette is reminiscent of a childhood surrounded by Arizona desert. Movement, synergy and spirit are incorporated into each piece reflecting her years as a dancer and choreographer.
Gerri Johnson-McMillin catches her own albacore and uses their pectoral fins along with monofilament to create her vessel forms. In working with the bones, she said she feels she is weaving life back into the fish, experiencing their migratory path throughout the world, and sending them on a new journey as another form.
