Six Safety Harbor girls were standouts in synchronized swimming at the
local, regional and national levels during June. The six are part of
the 20-member Suncoast Waterworks Synchronized Swim Team, which is
based at the Southwest Pool in Largo.
The synchronized team, which has
been based in Largo for 21 years, hosted “Cirque de Synchro” during the
first weekend in June and was in Seattle for the Age Group National
Championships during the last week of the month. The five-member 14-15
age group team includes four Safety Harbor residents: Katy Alexander,
Jennifer Aguero, Laurie Goyack and Logan Worley. The fifth member is
Courtney Lehman of Lithia.
The team qualified for finals at the junior
and senior zones, received gold at association and regional
competitions and competed in the nationals. The team placed 8th
nationally. Katy Alexander placed 32nd nationally in solo competition;
Jennifer Aguero was part of a duet that placed 23rd; Logan Worley and
Laurie Goyack placed 20th as a duet; and Logan Worley and Katy
Alexander were part of a trio that placed 13th. The 12-13 age group
team, which includes Safety Harbor residents Sarah Cooke and Kimberly
Goyack, was undefeated all season and also qualified for the nationals,
where the team placed 11th. The two were part of a trio that placed
4th; Sarah Cooke placed 17th in a solo and Kimberly Goyack placed 6th
in a solo and 9th in figures competition.
The team has worked hard,
practicing 4-5 hours daily five days a week. It is open to anyone who
likes synchronized swimming and any youth is welcome to attend a
session at no charge from 5-6 p.m. any Tuesday or Thursday. For more
