Dear Nanny Fran,
Why in the world is "poo" so important to
you?
Poo is one of the most important items in
this world! Just think about it. If you and I eat, drink, sleep, go
to work, play and have fun and we do not poo... everything will
come to an abrupt halt. Poo, the generation of poo, and the amount,
color, consistency of poo is important. Yes, truly it is.

This is an important topic for every
living creature. When the body is ill, undergoing change, etc. the
signs and symptoms are exhibited through poo and the lack or
overabundance thereof. This is true of cats, dogs, people, birds,
lizards, polar bears, ad infinitum!
Why discuss poo you might ask? The
foremost reason is the fact that many people find poo disgusting. I
cannot fathom the reasons for that. In dogs, poo is dog food
moistened with saliva from the dog's mouth and secretions (acids
that aid in the digestion process) in the dog's stomach. The same
is true for cats, people, etc. Essentially, dog poo is moistened
dog kibble. I have heard over and over again that a dog's mouth is
sixty percent more antiseptic than a human's mouth. Makes me only
want to kiss dogs! Actually, I've been doing that for 15 years. I
rarely have a sniffle. Is this true for you? I give lots of hugs,
smiles, handshakes and kind words, but I can count on my hand the
number of human kisses I have received or given in 15 years.
Poo is a natural fertilizer. How many of
you have purchased composted cow manure at the garden store to
incorporate into your flower beds? If you know anything about
gardening you have done this many times. Did you know that the
button mushrooms in the grocery store have been grown in chicken
manure and straw? Yes, indeed. I have had truckloads delivered to
my door so that I could incorporate it into every flower bed and
vegetable garden I had on my property.
Why am I discussing poo or the nuances
thereof? In 15 years of pet sitting I have been amazed at humans
who "love" their animals but are horrified to think of coming near
the animal's poo. Frankly, I feel blessed to have the animals in
my life and an appropriate deposit of poo is typically a sign of
excellent health. What a blessing! Health and wellness for our
sweethearts.
