The Sixth Judicial Circuit Judicial
Nominating Commission (JNC) has begun accepting applications from
lawyers for the vacancy created by the recent appointment of
Circuit Judge Nelly Khouzam to a seat on the Second District Court
of Appeal.
Deadline for JNC Chair Peter Meros to
receive the applications is 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5.
The applications will be screened by the
JNC and applicants selected for the interview process will be
contacted by a JNC member, who will schedule an interview.
Following the interviews, the JNC in October will select between
three and six nominees. The names of those nominees will be
submitted to Gov. Charlie Crist, who then will have 60 days to
appoint one of the nominees.
Applicants must be registered voters and
have been members in good standing of the Florida Bar for the
preceding five years. One original and nine copies of the completed
application and attachments must be submitted to the law offices of
Peter Meros at Meros, Smith, Lazarra & Olney, P.A., 757
Arlington Ave. North, St. Petersburg 33705.
Meros said persons who have submitted
applications for previous vacancies must submit new
applications.

Judge Khouzam was appointed to fill an
Appeal Court vacancy created by the retirement of Judge E. J.
Salcines.
