America celebrates Constitution Week, Sept. 17-23. The U.S. Constitution was signed 221 years ago on September 17, 1787. The week-long commemoration of America’s most important document is one of our country’s least known official observances.
The U.S. Constitution stands as a testament to the tenacity of Americans throughout history to maintain their liberties and freedom, and to ensure those unalienable rights to every American, said Julia True Noah, a past regent of the Caladesi Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
Locally, DAR chapters will observe Constitution Sunday together at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Dunedin at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14.
At a Dunedin City Commission meeting, Caladesi Chapter will present Mayor Bob Hackworth with a Constitution Flag to fly over Dunedin City Hall during Constitution Week and will receive a proclamation declaring Constitution Week.
At 12:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, Caladesi Chapter will hold its first fall meeting at the First Presbyterian Church in Dunedin. The program, “History of American Flags” will be presented by Floyd Head of Head’s Flags of Tampa.
Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible to become a member. Call 727-733-5383.
