Florida's DEP Promotes 'Green' Web Resources E-mail
Wednesday, 17 September 2008

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is encouraging citizens to visit its “green” web resources for information on the many ways to “green” daily life. DEP offers a variety of “green” resources online, including the new Florida Green Lodging Program guest survey, which allows guests to rate their “green” lodging experience.

The Florida Green Lodging Program requires each of its nearly 300 designated properties to meet a minimum set of environmental practices in energy efficiency, water conservation, clean air practices and waste reduction. The new online survey allows guests to rate the effectiveness of the property’s communication and implementation of its environmental policies. To take the Green Lodging online survey, guests can visit epic229.dep.state.fl.us/DepGl/glsurvey.do .

Additional Web resources to help Florida’s residents and visitors alike protect the environment include:

* The MapDirect tool on the DEP’s Green Travel website, http://www.dep.state.fl.us/green/travel.htm, allows visitors to view designated Florida Green Lodging properties and Florida State Parks in the same interactive map, showing environmentally friendly travel destinations for the entire state.

* The Florida Green Lodging website allows visitors to locate designated properties across the state, learn how to be a green guest when traveling, and includes a green meeting guide. www.dep.state.fl.us/greenlodging/

* The Florida Clean Marina website allows viewers to locate designated Clean Marinas statewide, learn about the Clean Vessel Act or receive tips for clean boating. Marine facilities can also apply to receive Clean Vessel Act grant assistance or apply to become a designated Clean Marina paper-free at www.dep.state.fl.us/cleanmarina/resources.htm.

* Pollution Prevention resources geared to business and industry can be found on DEP’s Pollution Prevention website including tips for adopting “green” business practices as well as information on free program services and consultations. www.dep.state.fl.us/pollutionprevention/default.htm.

* Each week new “green” tips can be found on the DEP website at www.dep.state.fl.us/green/tips/.

DEP’s Office of Sustainable Initiatives is comprised of three voluntary, non-regulatory programs that assist Florida industry and citizens in protecting the environment. The Clean Marina Program, the Florida Green Lodging Program and the Florida Pollution Prevention Program offer a variety of services including on-site assessments, consultations, speakers and workshops, all at no cost to citizens or organizations. The goal of the Sustainable Initiatives programs is to meet the needs of the present population without compromising resources for future generations.
