Reader Opposes High-Rise Condos On Bayshore E-mail
Wednesday, 10 December 2008
To the Editor:

Editor’s note:
The following is being sent as an open letter referencing objections to City Commission approval of an expanded downtown redevelopment plan as reported in the St. Petersburg Times (See: http://www.tampabay.com/news/localgovernment/article931904.ece )

Safety Harbor Commissioners:

Stick to your guns, folks. This William Turkali who is hoping to sell his 315 Bayshore Blvd. property to a high rise developer is greedy and wrong.

According to the Pinellas County Property Appraiser's website, Turkali bought the house and lot for $54,000 back in 1982. He is paying $1,267 in taxes, which he is taking homestead exemption on.

That means he is living in the house. He clearly means to move when he sells the property, which means he doesn't care what happens to the lot after he leaves. He just wants to take a big profit and get out of Dodge.

Those of us who reside in Safety Harbor love this little town, and absolutely do NOT want to see a line of high rise condos along Bayshore.

About 15 to 20 years ago, the Safety Harbor Commissioners were applauded when they declared our town a low density city. They also passed a one-acre minimum lot per house — what happened to that?

I like the idea of having a Waterfront Village district.

Our family lives here, shops here, and spends a lot of time along the waterfront by the marina.

Please keep Safety Harbor low density and scenic. This is our home. Turkali plans to foul his own nest — but he'll do it after he does not have to suffer the consequences of his greed.

Sandy Huff
Safety Harbor resident
