ART AFTER DARK - Third Friday of each month, 8 - 11 p.m.
An
after-hours museum event that offers live music, performances,
entertainment, culinary delights, libations and so much more. Sponsored
by the St. Petersburg Times and tbt* Tampa Bay Times. $10 Admission; members free

SPRING ART CAMP - New Program!

The Tampa Museum of Art is offering a Spring Art Camp
for children, ages 6 - 10, from April 6 - 9, 2009. The camp will be
held for four days, each with half and full-day options. Hillsborough
County art instructors will teach all classes. Children will have the
opportunity to explore art, media and techniques, expand their creative
boundaries and learn new skills. Call 813/274-7328 for more information

START WITH THE ARTS PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAM - Thursdays, 10 - 10:45 a.m.
In conjunction with the VSA arts Early Childhood Education Program, the museum presents the Thursday morning program, Start with the Arts.
The unique curriculum provides an art-based learning approach to
literacy and includes activities in visual arts, creative drama, dance,
movement and music. This program is geared for 3 - 5 year-old children
accompanied by a parent/guardian. The fee is $4 per adult and child,
and $2 for each additional child, and includes all class supplies.

THE ART SPOT - Saturdays, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Free drop-in program
This
Saturday morning free drop-in program offers children the opportunity
to explore their own creativity by visiting the galleries and creating
art projects in the museum's classroom. Projects are self-guided and
offer a different art activity each week. No registration required. The Art Spot is a Target Art sponsored program.
January Theme: Photography
January 10 / Hand Colored Photographs
Students explore various materials and techniques designed to add a personal touch to any photos.
January 17 / Personalized Albums
Kids will create their own unique photo album to share with family and friends.
January 24 / Camera-Free Photographs
Students will use light sensitive paper to capture images.
February Theme: Collage
February 14 / Valentine Theme
Participants will make intricate valentines from cut and collaged paper.
February 21 / Torn Paper Images
Students will learn about value while converting traditional photographs into multi-layered paper collages.
February 28 / Colorful Gift Boxes
Papier-mache boxes in a decorative hard finish will be created and cherished by students for years to come.
March Theme: All About Me
March 14 /Artist Trading Cards
Students will share their artistic talent with others and leave with a unique selection of artwork from several different Art Spot participants and staff.
March 21 / Plaster Hand Casts
Kids
will use plaster gauze to create a mold of their hand that can later be
decorated at home. Participants will need the help of a partner to make
this project.
March 28 / Personal Shrines
Students will present their unique interests and personal style by creating a box that advertises all that is important to them.
JUNIOR DOCENT PROGRAM - Thursdays, 3:45 - 5:30 p.m.
Free for high school students
Junior Docent
meetings are held the second and fourth Thursday of each month and
offered free of charge. High school students can meet new friends while
learning about art and culture. The Junior Docent program at TMA provides an exciting experience for teenagers as they explore history and culture through art.

CLUB ART FOR TEENS! - Wednesdays, 3:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Club Art is offered free of charge and scheduled on select Wednesday afternoons during the school year at offsite locations. Club Art
offers teens the chance to meet and work with art professionals, learn
about careers in the arts and experiment with a wide-range of media and
techniques. Activities include guest lectures, workshops,
behind-the-scenes visits to museums and galleries, and the opportunity
to create art in a studio environment. A variety of snacks and
refreshments are provided.

LIFE ENRICHMENT CENTER CLASS
PAGES OF MY LIFE, WRITING YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY - Wednesdays, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Paula
Stahel presents an eight-week writing course that focuses on
documenting personal history accounts and writing techniques.
Participants will create stories that can become a family legacy to be
shared with future generations. Stahel is the owner of Breath &
Shadows Productions in Tampa, FL, and publishes life stories in print,
audio, and video. She also teaches life writing and memoir in classes
and workshops, ghost writes for those who aren't writers but want to be

Topic: Are Hard Times Good for the U.S?
Presenter: Fred Eilers
Since
the end of World War II, America has experienced an explosion in
technology and in the average standard of living. Information
technology (IT) is here and people want IT now! Is this a sign of cultural success or of a serious disease? Could hard times be a cure for the current ills in the United States? Eilers
received his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin,
Milwaukee, and his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of
Michigan. He taught at the University of South Florida from 1968-2006.

Topic: Frank Lloyd Wright / Building and Living in a Work of Art
Presenter: Mark Tlachac
What would it be like to live in a house that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright? This fictional account portrays a couple who contact the famous architect to design and build a house for them. The
presentation will provide an understanding of Wright's personality, his
architectural philosophy and his clients' feelings about living in a
work of art. Tlachac is an active member of the Frank Lloyd Wright
Foundation and the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy. He
holds a degree in history from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
and has produced a film about Wright's campus at Florida Southern
College.

ABOUT THE TAMPA MUSEUM OF ART
TMA is located in
an interim facility at 2306 N. Howard Avenue in Tampa, while
construction of the new museum building in downtown Tampa's Curtis
Hixon Waterfront Park is completed. The spectacular new
66,000-square-foot facility, designed by San Francisco architect
Stanley Saitowitz, is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2009. For more
