The Florida Orchestra’s February roster will delight their audiences with a variety of musical programs.

 

Progress Energy Masterworks: 

 

The evening begins with Weber’s Overture to Oberon with David Alan Miller as guest conductor.  Then east meets west in this program with Chinese erhu (two-string bowed Chinese instrument) virtuoso Betti Xiang performing a concerto tribute to China’s popular romantic tale of The Butterfly Lovers.  Tchaikovsky’s soaring Symphony No. 4 concludes the evening.

Raymond James Pops:  An Evening of Romance and Love Songs

 

Matt Catingub conducts his own one-man show as he seamlessly switches back and forth between piano, vocals, sax, flute and more.  His Valentine’s Day salute features such romantic classics as When I Fall In Love, Isn't It Romantic, It Had To Be You, You Go To My Head, Tenderly, As Time Goes By, My Romance, Unforgettable and other romantic favorites from the Great American Songbook.

  • Sat., Feb. 14, 8 p.m. at  Progress Energy Center for the Arts, Mahaffey Theater

Progress Energy Masterworks:  Blue Danube

 

Guest conductor Klauspeter Seibel is joined by multi-award-winning German pianist Markus Groh performing  Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 17 on a program with Mozart’s Haffner Symphony and a selection of Johann Strauss, Jr. favorites, including On the Beautiful Blue Danube, Gypsy Baron Overture and Emperor Waltzes.

About The Florida Orchestra

The Florida Orchestra presents the 14-concert Progress Energy Masterworks Series and the 8-concert Raymond James Pops Series, both of which are performed in Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater.  In addition, the orchestra performs the 6-concert Holland America Line Coffee Concert series at the Progress Energy Center – Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg.  The orchestra’s concert activities also include a selection of special concerts, a variety of free Pops in the Park Concerts performed in parks around the Tampa Bay area, and a Youth Concerts program reaching approximately 30,000 4th and 5th graders annually.

 

The Florida Orchestra is supported in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs; the Arts Council of Hillsborough County and the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners;  Pinellas County Cultural Affairs Department and the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners; the City of Tampa; the City of St. Petersburg; the City of Clearwater; and the School Districts of Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties.
