Awake and Sing by Clifford Odets
Presented by Avenue Players Theatre

In April, the Avenue Players Theatre is presenting Clifford Odets’ drama of life about a N.Y. family trying to survive the depression of 1935. The title is taken from Isaiah 26:19, which encourages all who dwell in the dust to arise. Written as a centerpiece of the legendary Group Theatre in NYC, it was the voice of revolutionary theatre. Its deeply flawed characters are vivid, furious and alive. The Players have cast the best actors in the area to bring Odets’ work to our patrons.
The play is particularly relevant at this time in America’s history, as we all struggle to survive an unprecedented turn of financial events and face an unpredictable future. Complementary mini-docent tours of the museum and refreshments will be offered 30 minutes before the performances. Tickets are $10 for museum members and $12 for non-members. Performances will be held in the museum auditorium. Talk Back with cast and crew as well as drawing for NYC gifts will follow each performance. For information, contact the box office at (727) 712-5762.
Evening performances are at 7 p.m. on:
Wednesday, April 8,
Thursday, April 9, 16
Friday, April 10, 17
Matinee performances are at 2 p.m. on:
Saturday, April 11, 18
Sunday, April 12, 19
