Stefan Sanderling, conductor; Karen Gomyo, violin; ADLER: The Fixed Desire of the Human Heart; SHOSTAKOVICH: Violin Concerto No. 1; BRAHMS: Symphony No. 3; Hailed by The Houston Chronicle for her "big sound, rich lyricism, and above all, compelling authority," Canadian violinist Karen Gomyo returns to TFO to perform Dmitri Shostakovich's "Violin Concerto No. 1." Stefan Sanderling conducts this program, which also includes Brahms' "Symphony No. 3" and the TFO premiere of America composer Samuel Adler's "The Fixed Desire of the Human Heart."

The Kite Runner, OFF CENTER SERIES, Fri.-Sun., May 1-3, Shimberg Playhouse, Fri. 8 p.m., Sat. 8 p.m., Sun. 4 p.m.: Regularly priced tickets are $24.50. Based on the novel “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner follows the story of Amir, the privileged son of a wealthy businessman in Kabul, and Hassan, the son of Amir’s father’s servant. As children in the relatively stable Afghanistan of the early 1970s, the boys are inseparable. They spend idyllic days running kites and telling stories of mystical places and powerful warriors until an unspeakable event changes the nature of their relationship forever, and eventually cements their bonds in ways neither boy could have ever predicted.

Patel Conservatory Youth Orchestra Spring Chamber Recital, Sat., May 2, Ferguson Hall, 1 p.m. Regularly priced tickets are $8 in advance, $10 day of show. The Chamber Winds Orchestra will be featured at this PCYO concert, which has been made possible through the generosity of ACMP – The Chamber Music Network, and the Clinton B. Ford Fund of its ACMP Foundation.

Patel Conservatory Youth Orchestra Spring Concert, Sun., May 3, Ferguson Hall, 2 p.m. Regularly priced tickets start at $10 in advance, $12 day of show. The nationally-acclaimed Patel Conservatory Youth Orchestra, comprised of more than 250 young performers from 75 high schools in seven counties, will perform its spring concert. Groups performing in the spring concert include Concert Strings, String Sinfonia, Junior Philharmonic and Youth Symphony.

Orlando Ballet School at the Patel Conservatory Spring Recital, Wed., May 6, Ferguson Hall, 6 p.m. Regularly priced tickets start at $10 in advance, $12 day of show. All students in pre-K4 through grade two who have participated in the Creative Movement 1, Creative Movement 2 and Primary ballet classes will perform.

Time Tapestries, Fri., May 8, TECO Theater, 7 p.m.: FREE.  An original theater work created jointly by members of Times Tapestries at the University Village and Hillsborough County school students, this intergenerational project is in partnership with the Masterpiece Living program at the University Village. Participants will perform the play they have been inspired to write.

The Adult Student Showcase brings students in music, dance, musical theater and acting out of the classroom and onto the stage to delight the audience with what they’ve learned throughout the year.

Stefan Sanderling, conductor; The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay's Richard Zielinkski, music and artistic director; MAHLER: Symphony No. 2, Resurrection; Inviting the audience on a journey from a despairing preoccupation with death to a soaring and releasing deliverance, Stefan Sanderling closes the Masterworks season with Mahler's "Symphony No. 2, Resurrection" in what promises to be an exhilarating collaboration of TFO and The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay. This work was last performed by TFO on the 1999/2000 season.

An American Dream, Sun., May 17, Ferguson Hall, 2 p.m.: Regularly priced tickets start at $10 in advance, $12 day of show. World premiere of a unique collaboration between two nationally known arts programs housed at TBPAC: the Patel Conservatory Youth Orchestra and the Orlando Ballet School at the Patel Conservatory in Dream Threads. The Patel Conservatory Jazz Ensemble will also be featured in the performance. Dancers from OBS at the Conservatory, accompanied by musicians from the Youth Symphony and Jazz Ensemble, will perform works by three of America’s celebrated artists. Highlighting the program is the premiere of the Dream Threads ballet, choreographed by internationally-renowned Tom Gold, with a score by one of the most respected composers working today—Grammy® Award-winner Augusta Read Thomas—as commissioned by the Patel Conservatory. Dream Threads is based on the story of The Magic Thread, a tale of a young boy who finds a magic thread which, when pulled, propels time forward.

Featuring favorite hit tunes, “Breaking Free,” “Get Your Head in the Game,” “We’re All in This Together,” “Start of Something New,” “Bop to the Top” and many more, the Disney Channel’s smash hit musical comes to life on stage.

Richard Kaufman, conductor; It's a night of Broadway stars and a bevy of best-loved songs from such hit musicals as My Fair Lady, Phantom, Chicago, Music Man, Evita, Mame and South Pacific.

Party Animals, MERCHANTS ASSOCIATION OF FLORIDA WEE FOLK SERIES, Sat., May 30, TECO Theater, 11 a.m., 1, 3 and 5 p.m.: Regularly priced tickets are $7.50. Come share a fun-filled hour of singing and dancing with the hilarious M'Cheany family as they celebrate a birthday and a new baby!
