Melissa Thornton of the Abilities Foundation gave the oath of office to
the following: Bill DeManbro, president; Pat Brant, first vice
president; Al Tower, second vice president; Roger Ormerod, treasurer;
Dave Gauler, assistant treasurer; and, Barbara Hoskinson, corresponding
secretary. Not present was Sherrie Morton-Tetrick, recording secretary.
Abilities Guild outgoing president, Bill Hollingsworth, presented a
check to the Abilities Foundation in the amount of $41,300, funds
raised during the 2008-2009 year by the Guild. All monies from Guild
fundraising events support the Abilities Foundation in its efforts to
job training and placement, housing, health and recreational help for
disabled persons.
Speaker for the evening was Kim Dittman, project coordinator, who
appraised the members and guests of a new program -- HS/HT or High
School/High Tech -- a program designed for disabled youth ages 14-22,
which explores job and/or post-secondary education opportunities in
techologyprelated careers/opportunities.
Rounding out the evening's events was a tribute to the outgoing
president, Bill Hollingsworth, for his four-year tenure as president
and for the many years and volunteer hours he has devoted to Abilities
Guild. It was noted that he received the Volunteer of the Year Award
from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and many other community awards in his
service to Abilities Guild and Abilities Foundation.
