‘Treasures of the Harbor’ Awards To Recognize Local Volunteers Who Give Community Service
Do you know a Safety Harbor resident who works tirelessly to help others? Maybe you should consider nominating him or her for one of this year’s “Treasures of the Harbor” awards. The deadline for nominations has been extended to August 15, and the winners will be announced at a gala dinner party on Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa. The event will benefit the Safety Harbor Public Library Foundation.
This will be the celebration of the second annual “Treasures of the Harbor” competition, and it is designed to honor those who have made significant contributions to the community. Treasure Volunteers of the year are being selected in three categories, based on the age of the candidates. The Pearl winner will be chosen from nominees who are 30 years of age and under, with the Ruby winner selected for those from 31 to 60 years of age. The Diamond winner will be someone who is 61 years old and above.
“We believe that volunteers are vital to the community and that they are usually under-recognized,” says Nadine Nickeson, co-chair of the event. “Selecting these ‘Treasures’ will give us a small way of saying thank-you to them and to all of the wonderful individuals who give their time and energy to help our charitable organizations.”
Individuals who are nominated must be performing valuable community service in a field not related to their business or profession. Nominees must be Safety Harbor residents who are helping civic, non-profit or religious enterprises. The candidate should not hold public office.
Winners selected by a panel of local judges will be announced at a fundraiser dinner and auction that will be held at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa from 6 to10 p.m. on September 10. Tickets are $75.00 per person and will be available at the library beginning August 1. Tables and sponsorships are also available for the event, which will include hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and dinner and auction.
This “island elegant” affair promises fun, food, entertainment and “best of all – net proceeds will benefit the Safety Harbor Public Library Foundation,” according to Linda Marshall, the other co-chair of the event.
