The City Of Dunedin Receives “Communities For A Lifetime” Award E-mail
Saturday, 08 August 2009

The City of Dunedin Florida has been awarded the 2009 “Communities for a Lifetime” Award, by the Communities for a Lifetime Department of Elder Affairs.  Dunedin was the first ever recipient of this award in 2007, this is the second time the City has received the award.

"It is our pleasure to award the City of Dunedin, a 2009 Community for a Lifetime Award, for demonstrating successful best practices that foster community initiatives to address the benefits and challenges of an increasing elder population.” said Jeanine Harris, Community Relations Manager for Communities for a Lifetime with the Department of Elder Affairs.  “The City of Dunedin is the very first Community for a Lifetime community, and was awarded a Continual Progress Award by the Department of Elder Affairs Communities for a Lifetime Bureau in 2007 during its Best Practices ExChange Conference."

The winners are communities who have demonstrated successful best practices in the areas of housing, transportation, employment, community development, health, intergenerational programs and volunteer opportunities, etc.  In addition, these cities and counties have fostered community initiatives that address the benefits and challenges of an increasing elder population, and enhance opportunities for all individuals to live in their chosen community for a lifetime.  Recognizing successful communities is a critical piece to the support of Communities for a Lifetime.

“This award is yet another award in a long list of awards this City has won and of which we all should be very proud.” said Dave Eggers, Mayor of Dunedin.  “We are so blessed to live in a City whose citizens embrace the concept that everyone in a community matters, and that everyone in a community should have the opportunity to live their life to the fullest.”

Later this summer, there will be a presentation of the award to the City at a City Commission Meeting.  For more information about Communities for a Lifetime, visit the website www.communitiesforalifetime.org or the City of Dunedin at www.dunedingov.com.
