Pianist Jon Kimura Parker Performs Benefit For TFO Education/Outreach
The Florida Orchestra/North Suncoast Associates presents an “Evening of Fantasy,” featuring internationally acclaimed concert pianist Jon Kimura Parker performing piano fantasies by Mozart, Schumann, Schubert and more. This benefit event, in support of The Florida Orchestra’s education and outreach programs, includes a champagne reception, an elegant dinner and the piano recital for $125 per person. It will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at the historic Kapok Tree Pavilion in Clearwater.
This event is a project of the North Suncoast Associates, an organization of men and women who support The Florida Orchestra in the areas of fundraising, education and audience development. This fundraiser will benefit the education and outreach programs of The Florida Orchestra, which serve over 100,000 individuals annually. Of that number, 60,000 are students in Pinellas, Hillsborough and Pasco counties. The Musicians in the Schools Program, the specially designed Youth Concerts and mentoring opportunities with the young musicians of The Pinellas Youth Symphony and The Tampa Bay Youth Orchestras are among these valuable educational initiatives.
In addition to performing with many of the major orchestras around the world, Parker has performed for Queen Elizabeth II, the prime ministers of Canada and Japan and in special performances for the U.S. Supreme Court. Nonetheless, Parker is committed to making his music accessible to people from all walks of life and in his own way has also been a people’s ambassador for classical music in his native Canada and elsewhere, providing free educational programs and recitals to remote communities as far away as the Arctic. He is an Officer of The Order of Canada, his country’s highest civilian honor, and the recipient of many other prestigious awards.
Parker has performed with The Florida Orchestra on several occasions, which have included performances of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, Gershwin’s Concerto in F, and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
