Joseph Rotella creates sculptures such as “Venus Rising,” above, that
are organic and fluid, finding form almost naturally in the materials used. Rotella
said, “Whether I’m metamorphosing marble, onyx, alabaster or bronze, I use the
materials to complement the contour and shapes of what I’m carving. I consider
this simple balance of material and form one of the integral components of my
work. I believe everyone on this earth was born as part of a plan; in their own
way everyone shares and contributes something to this world. I can only hope
sharing my sculptures will be my legacy, and that their creation and form
provide meaning and worth to people around the world.” His works are included
in the Vatican collection and are on exhibit this month in Oldsmar.
