Junior Woman’s Club Seeks Art For Fundraiser For Safety Harbor Library

The GFWC Clearwater Junior Woman’s Club is seeking artists to donate work for the Tableau d’Art auction in March benefitting the Safety Harbor Library. The event will feature unique and creatively decorated tables and items that might sit on a table. Artists are encouraged to use their imagination to create “one of a kind” distinctive pieces.

From its earliest days, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs has been a strong supporter of the nation’s libraries. The Clearwater club, with the support of its presenting sponsor, the Safety Harbor Resort & Spa, continues that tradition with the Tableau d’Art auction, with all proceeds going to the building fund for the Safety Harbor Library.

The auction will be held 7-10 p.m. Thursday, March 8 at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa. Tickets for this evening of live and silent auctions, music, hors d’oeuvres, and drinks will be available to the public for $50 each.

Artists are asked to register with a description of their planned work by Wednesday, Nov. 15. Additional information about the club and this event, along with an artist registration form, is available on the club’s website: www.ClearwaterJuniors.org or call 727-422-0533.

Clearwater Junior Woman’s Club is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs International, which has for more than a century encouraged women to improve their skills, expand their rights, and apply their abilities to society’s problems.

Locally, the club provides the Helping Hands Community Grants and the Mary Clark and Joseph Clark Memorial scholarship program, which has contributed more than $311,000 to local students and charities.

Most of the money is raised at the club’s annual Christmas Under the Oaks arts and crafts show, held each November at Coachman Park. Clearwater Juniors volunteer hundreds of hours each year to help organizations and projects such as Safety Village, Women on the Way, the Room that Love Built, Operation Smile, Homeless Emergency Project, Relay for Life, One Voice for Children, Safety Harbor Neighborhood Family Center, Wimauma, Parent University, Coastal Clean-Up, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership, and local schools, emergency services, and community events.

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs accomplishments include establishing 75 percent of the public libraries and the first traveling libraries in the country, helping to establish kindergarten as part of public schools, participating in enactment of child labor and protection laws, playing a significant role in the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906, and working for the establishment of a National Gallery of Art.

The Safety Harbor Library was founded through the volunteer efforts of the Safety Harbor Women’s Club.
