The Safety Harbor Neighborhood Family Center has added a new youth Program, C.A.R.E., Children Acquiring Remarkable Education. The C.A.R.E. youth program is available exclusively through the Safety Harbor Neighborhood Family Center, and is conducted at the local center, and the Westminster Apartments Community Center in the city of Oldsmar. C.A.R.E consists of three of the nation’s top violence prevention programs that are conducted on a weekly basis. Each age group acquires extensive experience and skills in critical thinking, conflict- resolution and problem-solving, which are proven to increase social, emotional and academic success.
Voted one of “the most exemplary and promising programs” in the nation by the U.S. Department of Education, the ICPS (I Can Problem Solve) curriculum provides children in the elementary school grades with the skills necessary to find positive, nonviolent solutions to social and emotional challenges. Children learn how to express and manage their emotions through the use of fun games, stories, role-playing, video and puppetry. Youth in the middle through high school grades also participate in two of the nation’s top violence prevention programs, the Program for Young Negotiators and Skills for Managing Anger.
The Program for Young Negotiators uses innovative role-plays, fun games and interactive studies to explore real-life strategies for conflict-resolution. Youth improve communication, learn effective methods to achieve personal goals, and increase positive social, emotional and character development. The Skills for Managing Anger program is the follow-up to the Program for Young Negotiators. This six-week video and role-playing-based program is designed to help middle and high school students cope with the stress that comes with increased responsibility. They are taught vital concepts and skills that enable them to manage their anger without resorting to aggression.
The Neighborhood Family Center provides youth with the help that is vital for them to grow into productive adults — free from violence, substance abuse and other negative influences.
Local residents are invited to join the new youth programs and continue to create stronger families, stronger friendships and community bonds that will last a lifetime. Youth programs are provided free of charge and on-going registration is available.
