Most people are probably aware that The Florida Orchestra’s
main reason for being is to perform the great symphonic composers’ works. For
the upcoming 2006/07 season, Music Director Stefan Sanderling has chosen a
broad offering of those works on the Progress Energy Masterworks series,
including Mozart’s Symphony No. 40, Sibelius’ Symphony No. 3, Haydn’s Symphony
No. 85, Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, Tchaikovsky’s Pathetique, Debussy’s La
Mer, Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7, Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 3, Brahms’ Symphony
No. 2 and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3.
The orchestra offers potential subscribers a choice of five
different packages of Masterworks concerts, with as few as 5 concerts and as
many as 14. To entice people to subscribe to the 10-concert and 14-concert
series, the orchestra gives those subscribers two free bonus concerts: Beethoven’s
Symphony No. 9 and a concert featuring Beethoven’s Piano Concertos Nos. 2, 3
and 4 with German pianist Peter Rosel. And if the above series don’t appeal,
subscribers can even build their own series with a “Pick-A-Six Pack.”
Among various benefits, subscribers receive a “Free Friend
Voucher” to invite a friend to one of a selection of concerts. Subscribers also
enjoy free flexible ticket exchanges into other concerts, even on another
series, if conflicts occur on their calendars.
To help make it convenient for people living around the Bay
Area, the orchestra performs the Masterworks in Tampa, St. Petersburg and
Clearwater. Tampa concertgoers will be pleased to learn that the orchestra is
returning to Friday nights at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, and St. Petersburg
fans will be able to enjoy all of their concerts in the newly renovated
Mahaffey Theater with its spectacular panoramic view of the marina and downtown
skyline.
In addition to the Masterworks, next season also continues its
morning Coffee Concert series in St. Petersburg, and the Raymond James Super
Pops in Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater. For information about the season
