Ethel Gumz, 87, of Safety Harbor, died October 2, 2006. She was born in South Bend, IN, and came here in 2003 from Knox, IN. Survivors include a stepson, Terry Gumz, Safety Harbor.

Ricardo M. Mathias, 48, of Safety Harbor, died October 3, 2006 at home. He came here in 1986 from his native Brazil and worked in sales for for Autoway Dodge in Clearwater. Survivors include his companion, Neil Mayfield, Safety Harbor; a brother and two sisters in Brazil; three adopted children, Jack and Cam Mayfield, and Elizabeth Jackson; and five grandchildren.

Margaret B. Schubert, 91, of Safety Harbor, died October 3, 2006 at Westchester Gardens Rehabilitation and Care Center, Clearwater. She was born in New York City and came here in 1980 from Springfield, NJ. She was a 22-year volunteer for the mammography and environmental departments of Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor, and in Morristown, NJ, she organized a cancer sewing group and supported Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital. In Springfield, she was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, former president and treasurer of the Women’s Club and a member of the Springfield Garden Club, where she specialized in African violets. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Edward J.; a daughter, Margaret Elaine “Peggy” Schubert, San Francisco; a sister, Emma Hutchison, Jackson, NJ; a granddaughter, Heather Anne Crawford, San Francisco; and a niece and a nephew.

Beatrice Mary Stevens, 94, of Safety Harbor, formerly of St. Petersburg, died October 5, 2006 at Hillside Gardens ALF. She was born in Boston, moved to St. Petersburg in 1939, to Safety Harbor in 1999. She was a homemaker and Catholic. Survivors include a son, Danny, Safety Harbor; two daughters, Lorraine S. Walden, Miami, and Rolanda B. Bailey, Nipomo, CA.; a sister, Stella Bruno, Randolph, MA; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Robert J. “Bobby” Bambery, 50, of Safety Harbor, died October 6, 2006 at home. He was born in Brockton, MA, and came here in 1989 from Stoneham, MA. He was an architectural draftsman. He was a member of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, Safety Harbor. He was an artist, a soccer player and fan, and a New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan. Survivors include his wife, Marisa; two sons, Ryan and Jeremy, both of Safety Harbor; his mother, Margaret Bambery, Stoneham; four brothers, Ken and Michael, both of Safety Harbor, William, Stoneham, and Joseph, Largo; and a sister, Mary Bambery, Colorado.

Mary C. “Connie” MacLeod, 83, of Safety Harbor and Alton Bay, NH, died October 8, 2006 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Nashua, NH. She was born in Newton, MA, and had been a seasonal resident of Safety Harbor since 1995. She worked for the New England Telephone Co. She was a Navy veteran of World War II and an active member of the New Hampshire WAVES organization. Survivors include a son, James, Hudson, NH; two daughters, Sally Decelles, Hopedale, MA, and Kyle Moulton, Manchester, NH; and six grandchildren.

Virginia F. “Jinny” Piepho, 87, of Safety Harbor, died October 8, 2006 at home. She was born in Cincinnati and came here in 1980 from Cleveland. She was a homemaker and a member of Northwood Presbyterian Church, Clearwater. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Harvey L.; a daughter, Judith “Judi” Schraer, St. Petersburg; three grandchildren, Seth Bell, St. Petersburg, and Daniel Bell and Jordon Raymond, both of Fulton, MO; and a great-grandson.

Roosevelt Cobb, 72, of Safety Harbor, died October 13, 2006 at Harbourwood Nursing Center, Clearwater. He was born in Marianna, and came here in 1961 from Clearwater. He was an automobile detailer with Dimmitt Automobile Dealership. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, served on the Deacon Board and sang in the choir. He enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Bertha; three sons, James, Oldsmar, Herbert, Dundee, and Roosevelt, Jr., Clearwater; three daughters, Patricia Brown, Clearwater, Gwendolyn Oliver, Riverview, and Sandra George, Odessa; three brothers, Leonard, Brantley and Jessie Belcher, all of Wachula; four sisters, Cathy Jean Daniels, Highland Park, NJ, Alice Belcher Faulk, Zolfo Springs, Evelyn White, New Jersey, and Loreatha Belcher, Jacksonville; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Betty Ann Mack Bast, 69, of Safety Harbor, died October 15, 2006 at home. She was born in Newark, NJ, and came here in 2002 from Brunswick, MD. She was a clerical worker for the federal government. She was a member of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, Safety Harbor. Survivors include a son, Allan Truelove, Safety Harbor; three stepsons, Jeff Bast, Waldorf, MD, Greg Bast, Lexington Park, MD, and David Bast, Clinton, MD; a daughter, Brigette Roman Sawicki, Winter Haven; and seven grandchildren.

Mary Lou Beaulieu, 63, of Safety Harbor, died October 17, 2006 at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor. She was born in Boston and came here in 2004 from Miami. She was manager of in-flight service for Delta Airlines. She was a member of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, Safety Harbor. Survivors include her husband of 17 years, David A.; and her mother, Lucille “Lou” Connor, Safety Harbor.

Barbara Jean Long, 69, a winter visitor to Safety Harbor, died October 17, 2006 at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park. She was born in Canton, GA, and came here in 2005 from Doraville, GA, where she owned and operated a beauty salon and was a member of Stamp Creek Baptist Church, White, GA. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, William Alan Long; a daughter, Lisa Palestra, Safety Harbor; a brother, Freddie Morris, Calhoun, GA; and a grandchild.

Helen M. Richter, 96, of Live Oak and formerly of Safety Harbor, died October 18, 2006 at Good Samaritan Center, Dowling Park. She came to Safety Harbor from her native Dover, NJ, and moved to Live Oak to be near family. She was the retired owner-operator of Helene’s Specialty Shoppe in Bernardsville, NJ. She was past president of the social club at Lake Haven Mobile Home Park, Dunedin. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Whitmore, Live Oak, and Delores Meister, Deltona; a son, Gerald, Safety Harbor; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

John J. Brotz, 74, of Safety Harbor, died October 19, 2006 at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor. He was born in Newark, NJ, and came here in 1996 from Scotch Plains, NJ. He was an Air Force sergeant. He enjoyed listening to music and watching movies. Survivors include three sons, Stephen, Palm Harbor, Christopher, North Plainfield, NJ, and Kenneth, Edison, NJ; a brother, Kevin, New Jersey; a sister, Diane Curran, North Plainfield; and four grandchildren, Debra, David, Matthew and Amanda.

Richard T. “Dick” Thompson, 65, of Safety Harbor, died October 19, 2006 at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater. He was born in Moline, IL, and moved to Florida in 1979 from Davenport, Iowa. He owned Zoeckler’s Office Furniture & Supplies in Davenport and later co-owned Fidlar & Chambers Office Products Division. He owned Pinellas Millwork in St. Petersburg and currently worked in sales for Sun Proof Corp. of Florida. He was a former member of Rotary Club International and served as a mentor to other business owners. He was a member of Feather Sound Community Church and attended Palm Harbor United Methodist Church. He was president of the Huntington Isles Homeowners Association, Safety Harbor. He played golf with a passion and enjoyed fishing while watching the sun rise. He was a former member of Feather Sound Country Club. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Gail; two daughters, Jennifer Thompson, Birmingham, AL, and Wende Anderson, Palm Harbor; his mother, Betty Lou Thompson, Moline; a brother, R. B., Woodstock, IL; a sister, Linnea Thompson, Moline; and two grandchildren, A.J. Anderson and Annabelle Anderson.

Louis A. Cecott, 78, of Safety Harbor, died October 20, 2006 at Encore Senior Village, Clearwater. He was born in Chicago and came here in 1998 from Houston. He was a cartographer and worked for the oil industry. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Catholic. Survivors include a sister, Alice Lohmeyer, Safety Harbor; a nephew; and a niece.

Augustine S. Cochrane, 88, of Safety Harbor, died October 21, 2006 at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. She was born in Weston, WV, and came here in 1980 from Parkersburg, WV. She was a volunteer at Mease Countryside Hospital. She was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church at Countryside, Clearwater, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her caregiver of 38 years, Betty M. Wise, Safety Harbor; a son, Harry M., Parkersburg; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild.

Salvatore D’Angelo, 85, of Safety Harbor, formerly of Oldsmar and Tampa, died October 25, 2006 at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. He was born in Granit, Sicily, moved to Philadelphia in 1947, and came to the area in 1995. He earned degrees from the University of Messina, Italy, and Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania, and worked 27 years as a credit analyst for Gulf/Chevron Oil Co. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Massell, Safety Harbor, and Maria D’Angelo Dougherty, Pittsburgh; and five grandchildren.

Nicholas J. Lopez, 70, of Safety Harbor, died October 27, 2006 at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor. He was born in New York City, and came here in 2000 from Glen Cove, NY. He was facility manager for Gull Aire Village, Oldsmar. He was a member of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, Safety Harbor. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Alice M.; a son, Nicholas Jr., Virginia Beach. VA; four stepsons, Michael Russo, Chester, VT, Stephen Russo, Farmingdale, NY, Alfred Russo, Findlay, OH, and Thomas Russo, Wantagh, NY; two daughters, Theresa Gatto, Moonachie, NJ, and Carol Keep, Virginia Beach, VA; a stepdaughter, Nora Ann DeZaine, Springfield, VT; a brother, Andrew, New York City; two sisters, Connie Lopez, Northport, NY, and Carmen Mullins, New York City; 16 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Ruth Ann Coleman, 80, of Safety Harbor, died October 29, 2006 at home. She came here in 1982 from her native Chicago and worked eight years in the finance department of Morton Plant Hospital. She was Protestant. Survivors include a son, Peter E. III, Clearwater; a daughter, Deborah Huffman, New Port Richey; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Selma Tarantelli, 74, of Safety Harbor, died October 31, 2006 at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor. She was born in New York and worked as a secretary. She was Christian. There are no known survivors.
