Peter Anthony Gigantelli, 87, Safety Harbor, died November 25, 2006 while on a cruise. He was born in Netcong, NJ, and moved to Safety Harbor in 1975 from Dover, NJ. He was an engineer and worked for the federal government. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and member of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church in Safety Harbor. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Victoria; a son, Dean, Park City, UT; a daughter, Donna Smith, Tampa; a brother, Cozie, Mine Hill, NJ; two sisters, Lee Ninni and Anne Pasake, both of Toms River, NJ; and five grandchildren.

Orville J. Underwood, 86, Safety Harbor, died December 1, 2006 at Evergreen Manor under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. He was born in Round Grove Township, MN, moved here in 1957 from Hopkins, MN, and later came as a winter resident from Newland, NC. He retired as an electrical design engineer after 43 years with Honeywell. He was a member, deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church of Safety Harbor and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He was active in bridge championship tournaments, enjoyed bowling and was active as a scorer and timer and previously taught with the Sports Car Club of America. Survivors include a daughter, Sandy McAllister, Clearwater; a son, Gary J., Port Republic, MD; a brother, Milan, Park Rapids, MN; five grandchildren, Tamera Hanson, Robert, Warren and William Bare and Patricia Burd; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Betty J. Frizzell, 85, Safety Harbor, died December 4, 2006 at Manor Care of Palm Harbor. She was born in Cedar Rapids, IA, and came here in 1996 from Wichita, KS. She was a homemaker. She was a past president of the Wichita Symphony Club, a past queen of the Daughters of the Nile, and a board member of East Heights Methodist Church, all of Wichita. She was responsible for opening the first out-patient medical clinic at Wesley Hospital, Wichita. Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Frizzell Piechocki, Safety Harbor; a sister, Barbara Rieck, Richardson, TX; and three grandchildren.

Fred D. Rembert, Sr., 90, Safety Harbor, died December 4, 2006 at Harbourwood Nursing Center, Clearwater. He was born and raised in Clearwater and worked as a machinist for Gulf Machinery. He was a member of the Safety Harbor Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Survivors include his wife, Tommie L. Green-Rembert; two sons, Ronald and Fred, Jr., both of Safety Harbor; two daughters, Joyce Rembert-Howard, Oldsmar, and Ethel, Safety Harbor; a brother, James C., Clearwater; a sister, Nell Rembert-Bryan, New York City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Kurt D. Peters, 60, of Palm Harbor, died December 4, 2006 at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater. He was born in Glen Ridge, NJ, and came here in 1970 from Parsippany, NJ, then moved to Palm Harbor. He worked 15 years as director of public works for the city of Safety Harbor. He also taught continuing education for Pinellas schools and was the former manager of the city of Belleair. He was Catholic. Survivors include his wife, Sharon; three daughters, Dawn Cardamone, Clearwater, Courtney Burchard, New Port Richey, and Nicole Donaldson, Jackson, Mich.; his mother, Mary Peters, Delray Beach; a brother, Kim Peters, Boca Raton; a sister, Cheryl Sottile, New Jersey; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Bernice E. Foerch, 82, Safety Harbor,  died December 6, 2006 at Palm Garden of Clearwater. Born in Bergenfield, NJ, she moved to the St. Petersburg area in 1957 from Westwood, NJ. She was a loan officer for 10 years with Rutland Bank. She was a former member of Holy Family Catholic Church in St. Petersburg. She enjoyed sewing and ceramics. Survivors include a son, Peter, St. Petersburg; a daughter, Carol Gentry, Safety Harbor; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Earl L. Cook, 85, Safety Harbor, died December 9, 2006 at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor. He was born in Argentine, PA, and came here in 1975 from Butler, PA. He owned and operated Earl Cook Lawn Service in Countryside and Safety Harbor for 31 years. He retired from the Army. He was a veteran of World War II, and served two tours in the Korean War and three tours in the Vietnam War, and was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. Survivors include two brothers, Keith, Safety Harbor, and William H., Eau Claire, PA; and a sister, Shirley Bonetti, Butler, PA.

John Meyer, 83, Safety Harbor, died December 11, 2006 at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor. There are no known survivors.

Dolores H. Henwood, 97, of Vero Beach, formerly of Safety Harbor, died December 10, 2006 at home. She was born in Elizabeth, NJ, and was a homemaker and Methodist. Survivors include a son, David A., Safety Harbor; and two grandchildren.

Richard P.Schmitt, 67 Safety Harbor, died December 11, 2006 in Niskayuna, NY. He was born in Wheeling, WV, and came here from Byesville, OH, where he retired as owner-operator of Schmitt’s Furniture Store. He was a former member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Warwood, WV. He graduated from Wheeling Jesuit University and received a masters degree from West Virginia University. Survivors include two daughters, Christina Flaspohler, Niskayuna, NY, and Cynthia Martino Columbus, OH; four brothers, Henry G., Raymond J., Bishop Bernard and Robert H., all of Wheeling; and three grandchildren.

Raymond F.Cronin, 84, Safety Harbor, died December 22, 2006 at Palm Gardens of Clearwater. He was born in Elmira, NY, and came here in 2005 from Corning, NY, where he retired as a senior mold designer for Corning Inc. He was Catholic, a volunteer for Retired Senior Volunteers program and enjoyed fishing and golf. Survivors include his wife, Arline (Krewer); a daughter, Barbara Wojdan, Safety Harbor; a son, Robert, Houston; and a grandchild.

Lois V. Devine, 82, Safety Harbor, formerly of Oldsmar, died December 22, 2006 at Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital, Tarpon Springs. Born in Lincoln, IL, she moved to Oldsmar in 1971 from Springfield, Ill, and later moved to Safety Harbor. She was a motel housekeeper. She was a member of VFW Post 10093 Auxiliary, American Legion Post 238 Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge, all of Safety Harbor. Survivors include a son, Robert F., Lincoln, IL, and her companion, David Henderson, Safety Harbor.

Wesley J. Reid, 65, Safety Harbor, died December 23, 2006 at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. He was born in Joliet, IL, and came here in 2001 from Okeechobee. He retired after 40 years as a printer and was Protestant. He enjoyed raising dogs, walking in Philippe Park, fishing and music. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Sheridan; a son, Richard W., and a daughter, Jeanette M. Reid, both of Safety Harbor; a sister, Bonnie Vorel, Rock Island, IL; and two grandchildren, Kristy and Joshua Reid, both of Stuart.

Donald R. Johnson, Sr., 76, Safety Harbor, died December 28, 2006 at home. He was born in Detroit and came here in 1973 from Rochester, NY. He worked 34 years as a customer relations manager for General Electric. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was Methodist. He was a member of American Legion Post 7, Clearwater, and also a member of the American Numismatic Coin Collecting Association. He was a former Boy Scout Leader and District Commissioner with the Boy Scouts of America. He was an avid bowler and golfer, enjoyed cooking, was an animal activist and a supporter of the Lowry Park Zoo, Tampa. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth; two sons, Donald, Jr., Savannah, GA, and Frederick C., Oldsmar; a daughter, Pamela Sue Johnson Philpott, Palm Harbor; and several grandchildren.
