Marketing Director Lex Poppens Leaves Ruth Eckerd Hall For Omaha Symphony
Lex Poppens, director of marketing and communications at Ruth Eckerd Hall, is leaving Florida this month for a new position with the Omaha Symphony. Poppens joined the hall in 1996 and played a key role in developing programming that has placed Ruth Eckerd Hall among the top performing arts venues in the nation.
“Few people have had the pleasure and privilege to serve a community as I have as Director of Marketing and Communications for Ruth Eckerd Hall,” Poppens said in an email announcing his departure. “When I joined the Ruth Eckerd Hall staff, I would have never guessed that I would stay here for more than two years. Well, ten and a half years and more than two million tickets later, I have been appointed Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the Omaha Symphony.
“While I may be moving to Omaha, Nebraska, there is already a piece of Tampa Bay there — Omaha Symphony Music Director Thomas Wilkins. As you might know, Maestro Wilkins was the former Associate Conductor for The Florida Orchestra prior to his departure to Detroit and Omaha. This is an exciting orchestra in an exceptionally beautiful city and a brand new facility, The Holland Center for the Performing Arts.
“In ten years, Ruth Eckerd Hall has grown from relative obscurity to one of the nation’s top buildings. In no small way, that has happened with your support of our mainstage product and the incredible programs in The Marcia P. Hoffman Performing Arts Institute. I am proud to have been a part of the Ruth Eckerd Hall family, this facility and its ground-breaking, record-breaking growth.
“Thank you all for helping to make Clearwater’s Ruth Eckerd Hall-Your Hall of Fame!”
Poppens assumes his new position on Friday, Jan. 19.
