Sandra (Sutton) Harris, 69, Safety Harbor,
died January 2, 2007 in Cleveland. She came here in 1986 from her
native Cleveland, and worked for Northwest Airlines. Survivors
include three sons, David and Harvey Sadowski, both of Tampa, and
Derek Sadowski, North Royalton, OH; a daughter, Tracy Sadowski,
Tampa; five sisters, Linda Thibault and Cookie Snelling, both of
Tampa, Janet Slama, Cleveland, Do Hala, Brecksvillle, OH, and Midge
Hood, Charlotte, NC; and two grandchildren.
Mary Jeanette Rowe, 69, of Fort Myers,
formerly of Safety Harbor, died January 2, 2007 at home under the
care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. She was born in Somerset,
PA, came here in 1998 from Hyannis, MA, and in 2005 moved to Fort
Myers. She was a retired registered nurse and worked locally for
Cape Regency in Safety Harbor. She was an active member of First
United Methodist Church of Safety Harbor. Survivors include two
sons, Ryan W., Fort Myers, and William, Annandale, VA; two
daughters, Andrea Rowe, Germantown, MD, and Dee Ann Woodcock,
Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Liz Martin, Latrobe, PA; nine
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Ruth Eliza Carol Rudicill, 95, Safety
Harbor, died January 10, 2007 at Sylvan Health Care Center. She was
born in Botkins, OH, and moved here in 1953 from Cincinnati. She
was a hairdresser and locally owned and operated a beauty salon.
She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. Survivors include a
sister, Hazel Brandenburg, Piqua, OH.
Francis Murray &ldquoDuke&rdquo
Cone, Jr., 68, Safety Harbor, died January 14, 2007 at home. He was
born in Jacksonville and moved here in 1987 from Satellite Beach.
He was a defense contractor for the federal government and retired
after 20 years from the Army with the rank of major. He was a
member of American Legion Post 238 and VFW Post 10093, both in
Safety Harbor, and the Masonic Lodge in Alexandria, VA. Survivors
include his wife of 14 years, Matie; two sons, Richard Dean,
Melbourne, and Rodney Duke, New York City; two daughters, Caryl
Frances Presnell, Satellite Beach, and Terri Colleen Sharrow, Grand
Rapids, MI; two brothers, Nathan Jay, Baldwinsville, NY, and Craig,
Cincinnati; his stepmother, Claudeau Cone, Okeechobee; three
sisters, April Van Camp, Okeechobee, Carol Cone, Tualatin, OR, and
Joanie Neu, Cincinnati; and five grandchildren.
Homer William Kocontes, 88, Safety Harbor,
died January 13, 2007 at Bay Pines VA Health Care System. He was
born in Denver and came to the area several years ago. He owned and
operated a retail store. Survivors include three sons, Lonnie,
Safety Harbor, Stanley, Newbury Park, CA, and Lance, Chicago,
IL.
Anne J. &ldquoNancy&rdquo Ackley,
82, Safety Harbor, died January 17, 2007 at home under the care of
Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. She was born in Gloucester, NJ,
and came here in 1982 from Macomb, IL. She retired after 30 years
as a junior high school teacher. She was a member of Espiritu Santo
Catholic Church, Safety Harbor, and enjoyed arts and crafts.
Survivors include two brothers, Robert Manion, Inverness, and
William Manion, Thorofare, NJ; three sisters, Jeanne Smith,
Hainesport, NJ, Nona Russo, Ventnor, NJ, and Margaret Schnarr,
Woodbury, NJ; and a nephew, Thomas Flynn, Clearwater.
Dorothy Maris Stewart, 81, of Seward, NE,
formerly of Safety Harbor, died January 17, 2007 in Seward. She was
born June 16, 1925 in Detroit. She married David Bruce Stewart, Jr.
on July 20, 1945. She was preceded in death by her husband; her
parents, Louis and Pearl (Fortune) Maris; her brother, Louis Maris,
and sisters, Virginia Lindsay and Ruth Cram. She was former
secretary to the Board of Education Roseville, MI Public Schools
and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Seward. Survivors
include her son and daughter-in-law, David B. III and Jacquelyn
Stewart of Seward, and daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Hans
Lehr, Saratoga Springs, NY; four grandchildren, David IV, Kristin,
Sarah, Matthew, and their spouses, Monica, EJ and Nathaniel; four
great-grandchildren, Myla, David, Evan and Stellan; brother-in-law,
Walter Lindsay and sister-in-law, Ingrid Maris; special friends
include: Ann Sypitkowski, Delores Grundish, Alice Kimball, Alice
McLean, Edith Steinmiller, Carly Roth, the Abdi Boozar family and
especially the gentle, caring staff at Sundermann East, Seward.
Dorothy Carreira, 78, of Safety Harbor and
Warren, RI, died January 20, 2007 at Mease Countryside Hospital,
Safety Harbor. She was a seasonal resident from her native Warren,
RI. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Joanne
Coelho, Odessa.
Bettie H. Humphries, 87, Safety Harbor,
died January 23, 2007 at home. She was born in Nevada, MO, and came
here several years ago from Missouri. She worked as a personnel
secretary for county government. Survivors include a nephew,
Charles Steele, Venus.
John M. Thompson, 87, Safety Harbor, died
January 19, 2007 at Tandem Health Care of Safety Harbor. He was
born in Calgary, Canada, and came here in 1991 from Milwaukee. He
was an engineer for Cutler-Hammer, now known as Eaton Co., and was
a specialist in switches that were instrumental in the development
of the Space Shuttle program. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of
World War II. He was a 25-year volunteer with the National Ski
Patrol in Wisconsin. Survivors include his wife, Mathilde
&ldquoHeidi;&rdquo and two nieces, Christine Van Slyke,
Grand Rapids, MI, and Colleen Hutchison, San Diego.
Carmen L. Ciambella, 92, of Williamsville,
NY, seasonal resident of Safety Harbor, died January 22, 2007 at
Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor. He was born in Buffalo,
NY, and in 1999 became a seasonal resident of Safety Harbor. He
worked many years with his family&rsquos marine linen supply
service in Buffalo, and later worked for the city of Buffalo as a
civil engineer. He was a member of many clubs, a Buffalo Bills
season-ticket holder and an avid sportsman who won several trophies
in bowling and golf. He captained a pontoon boat for the Highland
Lakes Association. Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Whissel,
Palm Harbor; two daughters, Sandra Jaros, Lancaster, NY, and Linda
Kling, West Seneca, NY; three stepsons, Richard Whissel, Palm
Harbor, Robert Whissel, California, and Jim Whissel, Colorado; two
stepdaughters, Mary Ann Drury, Ohio, and Betty Jean Hahn, Palm
Harbor; seven grandchildren, Ronald Jaros, Jr., Jason, Jennifer and
Jill Jaros, and Amber, K.Jesse and Kasey Kling; and five
great-grandchildren.
John &ldquoJack&rdquo Haynes, 93,
Safety Harbor, died January 29, 2007 at Mease Continuing Care,
Dunedin. He came to America in 1924 from his native Wolverhampton,
England, and came here in 1978 from Cincinnati, where he worked as
a general manager of a circuit of theaters. He was an Army veteran
of World War II. Survivors include a son, James, Anchorage, AK; a
daughter, Judith Moutard, Bradenton; a half sister, Ruth Couture,
Manchester, MI; five grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren.
