Jonathan Michael Rossi, 20, Safety Harbor, died July 1, 2007 of injuries suffered while serving with the U.S. Army in Iraq. He was born in Okinawa, Japan, and moved here in 1999 from Seminole. He was a 2005 graduate of Countryside High School and was Catholic. Survivors include his father and stepmother, Michael N. and Kathleen A. Rossi, Safety Harbor; four brothers, Matthew Reif, Jason Rossi, Jordan Rossi and C.J. Ice, all of Safety Harbor; three sisters, Kaitlan Reif, Nicole Ice, and Mikayla Rossi, all of Safety Harbor.

Helen Margaret Shaw, 87, Safety Harbor, died July 2, 2007 at Consulate Healthcare of Safety Harbor. She was born in Palms, MI, came to Brandon in 1972 from Deckerville, MI, and recently moved to Safety Harbor. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church of Brandon, Dorcas Circle and J.O.Y. Group and was active with Meals On Wheels and Echo for many years. Survivors include a daughter, Delores Ann Shaw Dudley, Florida; a granddaughter, Julie Bassolino, Safety Harbor; and three great-grandchildren, Jessica Bassolino and Anthony Bassolino, both of Safety Harbor, and Charles Alan Norby, Venice.

Robert W. Lockridge, 71, Safety Harbor, died July 6, 2007, at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg after being struck by a motor vehicle while crossing McMullen Booth Road at S.R. 580 in Safety Harbor. He moved to Florida from Indiana approximately 15 years ago and was an avid coin collector. Before retirement, he was a foreman at Inland steel in Indiana and was the former co-owner of Bullwinkle’s Bar in Gary, IN. He is survived by his lifetime friend Marianne Lockridge; daughters Wendy (Keith) Fodness, and Nancy Cowley, both of Indiana; son Robert T., Florida; brother Jay (Vickie), Indiana; sisters Andrea (James) Carlson, Indiana, and Shirley (Bill) Harvey; and nine grandchildren..

Lois Rector, 95, recently of Palm Harbor, a long time North Pinellas resident and noted textile artist, died July 15, 2007. She was born in Centerville, MI and was a teacher and businesswoman as well as an artist active in many Pinellas County arts organizations. She is survived by two sons, Robert L. and Richard D. Rector and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jean M. Graff, 83, Safety Harbor, died July 17, 2007 at home. She was a Florida resident for 47 years. She was originally from Dayton, KY. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James M. Graff. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Krummen of Kentucky; three daughters, Sandy Cottrell, Barb Dean, and Anne Graff; three sons, Jim, Dave and Steve; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

John F. Rider, 53, Safety Harbor, died July 18, 2007, at Mease Countryside Hospital. He was born in Linden, NJ, and moved here in 1985 from Roselle, NJ. He was a system analyst with the Aegon Co. He is survived by his wife Elaine Rider, Safety Harbor; son Justin Rider, Alexandria, VA; father, George Rider, Safety Harbor.

Cynthia M. Abrams, 79, Safety Harbor, died July 21, 2007. She is survived by daughters Paula and Mindy; sister Arlyn; and four grandchildren.

David Allen VanSwol, 57, Safety Harbor, died July 25, 2007 at Consulate Health Care of Safety Harbor, after a long struggle with brain cancer. He worked for seven years for the Eckerd Family Youth Alternatives as a wilderness counselor, where he and his former wife, Mary Poole, later directed group homes for children without homes and emotional problems. An adventurer and outdoorsman, he bicycled on his honeymoon from Sarasota to Key West, and around the Island of Nova Scotia with his infant son in tow. Before his illness first struck 25 years ago, he was a runner and ran a marathon in New Orleans. He also was a talented wood worker and created beautiful toys for his children. He is survived by his mother, Lavone Van Swol; two children, Jesse and Meghan Poole Van Swol; two grandchildren, Logan and Ava Poole Van Schulz; his brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Debbie Van Swol; his father and stepmother, Robert and Carolyn Van Swol; his former wife and her husband, Mary Poole and Paul Ebacher; son-in-law Eric Schulz; and various aunts, uncles and cousins.
