Tampa Museum of Art Board Chairman
Cornelia Corbett signed a new land lease agreement on June 6 for
the new museum’s location in Curtis Hixon Park. The agreement
states the leased premises will be used to operate a museum for a
period of 50 years, automatically renewed for an additional 30
years. Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio must yet sign the agreement.
Corbett also recently announced that Ken
Rollins, the museum’s interim executive director, has agreed
to extend his employment contract through Jan. 31, 2008, at which
time he will continue on a month-to-month basis. Rollins’
current two-year contract expires Sept. 30.
The board of trustees is currently working
to identify a search firm for the selection of a new director for
the Tampa Museum of Art.
The Tampa Museum of Art is conducting a
capital fundraising campaign to build a new facility that will
consist of approximately 68,000 sq. ft. Architect Stanley Saitowitz
of San Francisco has been selected to design the new museum
facility located in Curtis Hixon Park in downtown Tampa.
Funding for the new facility will come
from both the public and private sectors. Museum officials expect
to begin site work in late 2007 and opening of the new facility is
anticipated in April 2009. For more information call
