Reader: Tax Deferral May Help Preserve City's Unique Character E-mail

To the Editor:

We live in Clearwater, adjacent to Safety Harbor.

The Tropical Breeze offers us an interesting, intelligent coverage of this area which we enjoy. Having lived previously for 25 years in Delightful Dunedin, we have found the lateral park along Bayshore, the village, fountain and marina, museum, library and access to Phillipe Park, delightful indeed. The fountain deserves special accolades as it is so fittingly Florida!

The Letters and Editorials are thoughtful and of interest, as well as the travel features. (When we travel to Costa Rica in July, we intend to take a copy of the Tropical Breeze).

Just a sentence or two on the June Editorial: “So What Is It Really Worth?” You accurately described the “Catch 22” property and business owners are in. Increased value, increased taxes.

When you sell you will profit as we recently did. The legislature has already proposed a plan that will not work, nor do I believe the citizens will vote for it on January 29, 2008. Schools and everyone else would be left vulnerable. Then what? Back to another costly special session? Perhaps a partial solution would involve some type of tax deferral until the sale. It would be nice if the character of places like Safety Harbor could be preserved.

Sincerely yours,

Henry L. King

Clearwater
