The Tampa Bay Business Committee for the
Arts (TBBCA) has created the 2007 BCA High School Arts Stars
Scholarship Award.
This new program has been initiated for
senior high school students in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.
Students in the two counties will be invited to apply for $2,500
scholarships sponsored by the Business Committee for the Arts in
the five following areas: vocal music, instrumental music, visual
arts, dance and literary arts.
Awards will be granted to provide
assistance for furthering arts education or for college or
university tuition to promising high school students involved in
the performing arts.
“This is a very exciting program
that our organization has proudly decided to support,” said
Charlie Hounchell, board member and chair of the BCA High School
Arts Stars Scholarship Program for the TBBCA.
“The TBBCA believes in the
importance of businesses supporting the arts. This is an impactful
way to show our purpose through the support of education and our
talented youth.”
The awards will be initiated at a kick-off
reception on Thurs., June 21, at the Valencia, a new Mediterranean
style condominium in Hyde Park Village.
Scholarship Sponsors will be announced at
this event. Scholarship recipients will be announced and their
winning work will be featured at the 2007 TBBCA Awards Gala on
Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. TBBCA
each year commissions a local artist to create a work of art to
honor each award winner. Deadline for proposals for this
year’s award is noon on Fri., July 13.
