Dear Nanny Fran,
What do you think of this letter I
received from Bob Wheeler, Chairman & CEO at Hills Pet
Nutrition? Have we seen the last of the pet food recalls?
Barbie
Go to Dogfoodanalysis.com and look up the
contents of these commercial products. Corn, wheat, ground peanut
hulls, soy… GARBAGE… cancer producing, allergy
producing, all nothing but cheap fillers. Corn, wheat, soy,
ground peanut hulls and sorghum have no place in a dog or
cat’s diet.
By the way, don’t be impressed if
you see soy in animal foods. According to my information, soy is
not a bio-available source of protein for dogs and it causes
allergies. Yes, supposedly soy is good for people; however,
it does not have the same benefit for animals.
I have been a caregiver to treasured
animals for 13 years. Having spent the last six years researching
cancer, cancer causes, diets to prevent cancer and having
experienced nine surgeries for spindle cell and mast cell tumors
all over my dog Amy’s body, I believe I have become somewhat
knowledgeable about cancer and nutrition. Along the way I have
helped people diagnose osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in their dogs. In
some cases I have then done grief counseling with the same person
or family when the dog was euthanized. I have encountered at least
two families dealing with mouth cancers. I also have done grief
counseling with them. I know of a minimum of three cats who died
from cancer as well.
I have encountered a great deal of
ignorance among people. They are clueless when they hear any
medical term. They “trust” what the vet says. Not me. I
may get the opinion of several vets and still do my own research.
Why? I will be the one who is totally devastated when my pet Amy
goes to heaven. Absolutely no one else will be where I will be.
I remember the loss of my clients’
pets, Cali and Reno. Both of their passings feel like they
happened just yesterday as I type this. The veterinarian said after
doing exploratory surgery on Reno that he found cancer in his
intestinal tract from his throat through his esophagus, intestines
and all the way to his anus. He said that the tissue looked
as if it had been exposed to the sun and received a terrible
sunburn. He had open blisters all through the lining of his
delicate tissues.
Cancer. The unfortunate part of animals
getting cancer is this. My oncology vet at Florida Veterinary
Services (FVS) has told me that FVS only sees about one to two
percent of the animals in the area with cancer. Most owners simply
have them put down at their primary care vet and do not take the
further step of going to FVS for assessment and possibly
treatment. One vet who has been in this area for more than 20
years says that he loses at least three animals each month to
cancer.
Multiply the number of vets in
Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Manatee and Orange counties times
36. Then you will have an approximate number of animals who
die annually from cancer. Corn and wheat creates cancer…
corn and wheat are cheap fillers in all kinds of dog and cat
foods.
Many, many people have said over and over
again with all these pet food recalls: “I am mad as
hell that I have been spending top dollar on foods that I thought
were good and they are corn and wheat garbage.”
Frankly Barbie, if you or I both got
personalized letters from the CEOs of all the major pet food
companies I would not be impressed. I also would like to let you
know that many, many of my clients have started cooking for their
animals. In some cases they are supplementing their cooking with
commercially prepared foods from small companies who use organic
ingredients, no corn, wheat, soy, ethoxiquin, BHA, BHT, etc.
These animals have noticeably increased
energy, loss of weight, more brilliant coloration in their fur,
allergies and skin issues have disappeared, etc. You will also hear
from vets that “we” are not intelligent enough to
concoct a healthful diet for our pets. I would like to ask
them how then am I able to devise a healthful diet for
myself? This is all propaganda to convince us we are stupid
and are putting the health of our animals in danger!
I met a couple just last week from Germany
who have cooked human food for their beautiful cocker spaniel for
13 years. The lady told me that when she was growing up in Germany
there was no such thing as dog food. Her mother as well cooked up
“dog foods” for the family dog.
I heard from a lady at Munchies in Oldsmar
about a dog in Australia who lived to be 30 years of age.
Supposedly he ate nothing but lamb and brussels sprouts! 30 years
old! Our cancer-causing garbage pet foods are causing dogs to die
off at all ages 6, 8, 10, 12 and 15. Fifteen should be middle age!
And, it can be!
